The Middle Tennessee Thread

Does anyone else think this is odd? A friend of mine called me earlier in the week and told me her grandson, who goes to school in Wilson Co., came home from school with a baby chick. She said he told her they gave away some to many children, just one chick each. They had it in a shoe box. I was doubting the details of the story until last night... My friend who also has chickens, who I gad told this story to, called me last night to say her neighbor's grandchild was also given a baby chick at school. They live in Wilson Co. too. I find it very hard to believe the AG department would give away baby chicks one at a time without prior consent of parents. I know 4H programs let kids who sign up raise chicks. They don't just give out one! I am picturing all these lone baby chicks in shoe boxes. This one family lives in a subdivision who prohibits chickens, so they can't keep it.

I did make some suggestions to the one person who called me to find another family with one chick to raise them together. In the mean time they got a bigger box and put a mirror and a furry sox with the baby chick.

Has anyone else heard of this?
