Some teachers will hatch in the classroom and send chicks home with the kids..... I didn't think about it being 1 chick. They should have asked the parents before sending a chick home. That is irresponsible on the teachers part for sure.

My DIL asked if I wanted chicks if they had a good hatch. Her little brother could get chicks if they hatched. I declined because I didn't know what they were or where they came from. BUT they ASKED before they sent them home.

My kids also attend grade school in Wilson County and no, nothing like that here. It must be an isolated incident. But yeah, I'd throw a fit. Basically, you're teaching the kids that getting a pet you aren't prepared to care for causes that pet to die. Nice lesson.

do you have any call ducklings
We will have call ducklings when Spring arrives. Our have just started laying. We have white, butterscotch and pigeon all running together.
What do you have? Do you ever come toward Fayettville?
We have mallards, pekins, runner ducks, apricots and muscovy mixes all in a free range area. The closest we get to Fayetteville is probably Lawrenceburg...

Oh, and my hardware cloth arrived today while we were in the garage working on the run so the delivery guy brought the heavy box to the job site :). It is what I ordered. So, I guess I'd buy from them again but expect my order may take a week or two to arrive no matter what their site says. And, my order status still says "to warehouse" so their tracking system is woefully lacking.

Hi. I was curious if any of you vaccinate your chicks yourself? I am going to be hatching lots of chicks this year both from shipped eggs and from my hens. The 2 roosters and 3 hens that I have were hatched here last summer and not vaccinated but have never shown any illness. I do want to prevent any illness that I can though. I have read mixed reviews on vaccines and was just wondering what you do. Also, where do you purchase the vaccines (Tractor Supply, Co-op, etc.)?

You may want to post this in emergencies and diseases. I personally do not have experience in anything like this. I hope she is ok.
