The Middle Tennessee Thread

Well hello everybody!j
I hope everybody is doing well and looking forward to spring.
I've been slowly working my way through hundreds and hundreds of post I haven't read on here. I quit my job at the sheet metal shop because they wouldn't grant me any time off to deal with the demolition of my old house and all the contents claim and other such lovely things to handle. I left them back in the end of January and have solely focused on getting us set back up on our land so I can get my chickens back.
I hope to be home by the end of April or the first part of May, so ya'll keep me in mind for your culls, I just want some old enough to lay right off.
I've already built myself a nice "landscaping" budget that is going to cover my new coops and runs.
I got my bator out of the old house and the "guts" look ok, but the outside is rough, and I'm afraid to reuse the styro cooler because of all the chemicals that were in the smoke. Guess I'll be making my version 3 now, but I have to say I liked V2, so I'll probably exactly duplicate it. So I'm also going to be looking for eggs pretty soon. I already know I'll be hitting up CarolJ and Dmrippy, and probably pickledchicken if I end up making that many slots in my new coops.
Also, I'm just doing odd and end work and handy man jobs for the time being. If any of you have something you need done let me know. I'm reasonable.

We have lots and lots of wild turkeys running around. I guess I should toss any turkey feathers I find in the coop? My chickens aren't vaccinated but we are pretty low-risk with the history of land use here. Any chicken-specific disease would have to travel here by shoe or purchased bird.

Not sure i would do that..... they might have other things that could kill your chickens..... not to mention parasites they might. I was talking about domesrcated turkeys.

I know you dont want to encourage wild birds to eat or br near your chickens..... i would think that would be true with any wild birds.

You just let me know what you want and when and I will try to squeeze you in.

Matlock good to see you back and chicken planning.

Curious... Where does everyone buy feed? Last time I got chicks, I picked up Flockraiser because the feed mill and co-op only offered starter with BMD and I have a problem with giving antibiotics to healthy chicks. I just called the co-op because I know they changed the layer feed and learned that they switched to unmedicated for starter feed. I'm not Purina's biggest fan and IMO, Flockraiser is overpriced. Thinking of trying the co-op's chick feed...
