Got eggs in lock down and the lights are flickering I hope the power doesn't go out

I have eggs in the bator too but they are only of there 5th day...I would get some towels ready...just in case the power does go out you can warp the bator with towels to insulate it and keep most of the heat and humidity in.

Cinny what are the signs of mareks? Thanks.
There are several kinds and that's what confused me, but in my case I noticed she started losing her balance and flapping her wings that went on for a few days and then one leg stuck out to the side and she couldn't get up anymore. Her eyes were fine....she ate and drank anything I gave her....she seemed in good health otherwise, her breathing was normal, she had no lesions, just couldn't stand up....I had already isolated her and kept her there for 3-4 days with hands on care. After doing a lot of reading and consulting some people on this blog I totally expected a diagnosis of gout. I was still unbelieving when the vet said a form of Mareks but the autopsy confirmed it. That's when I learned being vaccinated was no guarantee against getting Mareks and she could have a form that did not affect the rest of the flock. I took her to the vets Jan 8th...and the rest of the flock is still in excellent health. She was one that I did not raise from a chick got her at about 4 months old, but came from a reputable hatchery locally that others recommended and used. The other pullet I got from them is doing fine and laying regularly. Still scratching my head over it....doesn't make sense.

contact performance feeds in red boiling springs and see if they have a distributor in your area. 615 699 5080 i am lucky to have one 10 minutes from the house. also tucker feeds in scottsboro alabama.

Curious... Where does everyone buy feed? Last time I got chicks, I picked up Flockraiser because the feed mill and co-op only offered starter with BMD and I have a problem with giving antibiotics to healthy chicks. I just called the co-op because I know they changed the layer feed and learned that they switched to unmedicated for starter feed. I'm not Purina's biggest fan and IMO, Flockraiser is overpriced. Thinking of trying the co-op's chick feed...

What they put in chick starter is not really an antibiotic it is an inhibitor.

I feed tuckers feed and LOVE it! Bonnies Barnyard carries it and she will special order from Tuckers Fee Mill for you too.... if you want unmedicated.

Best of luck on your hatch.
I finally have all of the old coop burnt up except the rafters which are still attached to to metal roof. I'm working on ideas for my new & improved coop. I'm still hoping that the guy up the road will call and say come get this shed. It's 8x10 the only damage is the back wall blew off. Easy fix. If that doesn't happen I'm going to rebuild with at least 6 foot walls so I can walk in to clean out. Prices of plywood have went up a lot so I'm looking at smart side for siding. Or maybe cedar fence boards. I would do them like lap siding. It would be harder to clean but cheaper. Does anyone know where I can get rough sawn lumber at from a mill close to Nashville? I still have to replace the wifes truck engine , so any extra money from the insurance will have to go twards that. That said I may have to wait to concrete my run. But my son does block work & has offered to bring home any extra concrete mix they have left over. I still have some 12 ft. beams left over from the last build & am sure I can use them somewhere in the new build. It'll happen but slowly. My remaining hens are all back to laying, yesterday & today I got 3 eggs. :)

I don't mean the Amprolium. That would be OK. It's the BMD I take issue with. Bacitracin Methylene Disalicylate is, according to the National Institute of Health, a type A Medicated Article Antibacterial. Not a coccidiostat. It's commonly used in commercial broiler production where the birds sit like beached whales in their own filth.
