The Middle Tennessee Thread

So I have been using creek gravel... mostly MUD I think in my breeding pens in the back... it is a mess. I think I am going to get a dump truck of SAND to put in the runs. We can dig out one pen a week maybe and replace it with sand. I think he said his dump truck would hold 18 tons

I have 10 pens and really need some sand all around the walking areas too. I am going to build some new pens too and I don't want to have to pay the truck fee again.

TinTN we talked about a carport type thing over my runs, but if I use sand I may not need it... might be cheaper in the long run than those clear panels.

Sand would be cheaper, just need to plan for drainage. Let me know if you need help, I look like a sway back horse but work more like a mule. I'm serious let me know. If I plan time to help its no big deal.

I love your offers! You are going to help TONS with the hatcher... that is HUGE! If we take one pen at a time I think we can do it in a month LOL

What are you meaning by drainage..... that is what the sand is for... isn't it?

Would you believe that our downstairs flooded during the flash flooding last night? My daughter was transferred from our local ER to Vanderbilt, and while we were down there my mom was at home with my son. Sure enough she called and our downstairs was flooded with not only rainwater, but raw sewage too. My chickens are still flighty today, they weren't sure what to think of the mess.

To much rain will wash the sand out. You may need batter boards to hold it in the runs & possibly drainage pipes to divert water.
I enjoy hard work. It keeps me mobile. The more I do the better.I tend to move. The hatchet isn't to big of a deal for me. I'll send you some pics of drawings soon.

OK we used 4 x 4 at the base of all the pens so that will keep the sand in. PLUS the runs have privacy fencing all around. Water does not really WASH in the pens it just comes in now from the sky. I think we fixed the water FLOODING in the pens.

I am afraid to get you to help... I may not be able to keep up with you. I am not used to hard work.

This is my downstairs at the back door. We used every comforter/sheet/towel/etc to try to get it all off the wood floors, but unfortunately it's completely ruined :/

My front yard. Our solar lights are 8" tall and they were under water. It was at least 10" deep because it came up into my carport and laundry room
