I agree, most diffenetly would love to have a site to go to for buying animals from Ag or exotic sales that actually follow the rules, and might add a few of there own.

Absolutely! That post also made me think: what about people who need assistance/service animals for whom a dog is not appropriate? I read an article not so long ago about a young blind woman in (I believe) New York or Boston for whom a dog was unsuitable due to her family's devout Muslim faith -dogs are viewed as unclean but horses are not, so she has a seeing eye mini-horse. The article had a photo of her and the mini-horse, which wears a guiding harness just like the ones some dogs wear...as well as a bright orange vest with its service animal credentials prominantly displayed; they were riding public transit.
Sorry for hopping on the OT bandwagon, but it's a round-about way of saying: Yeah, I agree, a sort of BBB of Ag' businesses, auctions, private sellers, would be a good resource. Especially if someone is moving to a new area, or new to owning let's say Backyard Chickens? ;-D

DMRippy -Donna has great birds she is honest and anything you get from her will be what she said it is and the age she said it is! You can trust her and there are quite a few people that will tell you that!
I have known her personally for a few years now, you will not be dissapointed with any of her birds.
Love ya Donna!
I agree- I have bought a few chicks and eggs from her and they were healthy and what she said they were I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone that wanted chickens or eggs

thanks Becky!

Becky has nice birds too and will tell you the truth too. LORI is down where you are moving too not sure if she has any birds to sell.

HUM I can't think of anyone else that direction with chickens that have some to sell....
We are between S-ville and Lynchburg, about 30 mins from Lewisburg. I've got some bantam pullets (cochins, cochin crosses, d'Uccle pairs) for sale right now, but not any standard egg layers. Lots of roos! And turkeys! :)

I think there are a lot of people that say that they have pullets for sale and they are really older hens or 10 - 11 month old birds. I will be purchasing some when we get there about the last week of November. I completely understand the no auction thing! Also these will be our first at the new place so there won't be any that they have to stay away from.

Where do you find non-GMO feed?

I have sold all I am going to for the year but will have some Rhodebars and some Heritage Rose Comb Rhode Islands next year.
Early spring I may have some production layers... straight runs.

As far as non-GMO feed.... I grind and mix my own... and grind grains for several other poultry folks too who want soy free, gmo free rations.
Quite easy to do.... non-GMO grains are easy to grow here in TN and/or buy... hammermill, mix, ferment... easy.
Just balance the ration properly with the right amount of calcium, animal protein, etc... for your different management groups.

Donna- have you gotten any pics of your parent flock of Orps yet? I am going to (hopefully) be working lots of overtime soon and if I am getting any babies it will have to be in the next couple weeks.

Gosh- I don't even know how I am going to get my geese set up for breeding season this year. Oy.

no not yet. moving and setting up tv and internet and getting feed today. maybe I can get some today if not tomorrow. I think one girl is going broody...... I only hatched one mauve. I have several more batches in the bator though. I set every week.

We have bought chicks from DMRippy and msmeower. All of them are healthy. Dmrippy's are old enough now that they are laying. Msmeower's are still a few months away from any productivity. You can't go wrong either way.

Just a quick update on my DH. He is at the halfway point for his round of meds., he is going great was some fatigue but very few other issues! :celebrate
Thank you all for your prayers and keep them coming we sure can't have too many!
