My neighbor hunts squirrel and it has to be in season......I didn't know there was a season for squirrel did anyone???? Lol just wanted to toss that out there.

We don't think you are any crazier that we are Becky. I never thought I could kill any animal......now I would shoot any threat to my chickens and I can kill chickens now too if I had to.

Squirrels I get for sure on the release. Did not know you were in the city so yes the gun is out and drowning and beating to death just seems cruel. I am a bit weird like that I don't mind killing an animal I just want it quick. I don't want to hurt them in the process, now all of you can tell me I am crazy just like my family!

My mom had to have a family of raccoons removed from her attic by a professional. They said they relocate them. She wasn't sure that was true but she didn't ask. But it was expensive. You can call the Wildlife Department at the State level and find out what your legal, humane options are.

I used to hunt them all the time. It is my kind of hunting. Instead of sitting in a tree freezing your arse off, you just walk around until you hear or see one. But, they are a lot of work for a little meat. To be as small as they are their skins are tough as tanned bull hide. It doesn't surprise me that they would make good gloves. The meat is just as tough unless you know how to prep and cook it.

I have a really cute partridge silkie rooster that I need to rehome. He has the coolest teal feathers on his wings, the brightest earlobes (?????) in the world, and he's mostly charcoal but his mullet, as I call it, is gold. I'll try to get some good pictures. He's very sweet. He's free to anyone who will take care of him. He just started crowing two days ago. I live in East Nashville so no more roos for me. I'm fortunate that the one I already have (who is amazing at keeping the ladies in their place) is not too loud.

I'm looking to get a couple more hens, too. I want some birds that are good egg layers and good foragers. I don't care the age as long as you can guarantee they are hens. Hoping for some faverolles, plymouth rocks, or something along that line. I only have two girls laying right now and one is my turken, Ethel, that I got from Ms. Meower! She just started laying this week.

On a side not to you, Ms Meower, Ethel's tail feathers have come in beautifully and she doesn't take any crap from anyone but my RIR these days. Phyllis, the frizzled polish, is doing great, too. Still just has a pompadour and not the full afro yet and she is hilarious! She puts her head down and just charges anything in the yard that moves. Thank you so much for them!

Yes it is possible for birds to pine away for a lost mate or friend. I lost a goose to pining when her gander was killed by a car. (Gander was asleep in my double wide drive and some 4$$ left the road to run him over as he slept.)

I hope they're together in chicken heaven with endless amounts of blueberries, crickets, and bread now. It's heartbreaking to think of how agonized she must have been to just let herself wither away like that from the loss of her sister. They're buried together and my mom sent me a hen grave marker to place over them and I planted rosemary bushes there, too. They were special birds.

I don't think I could deal with a neighbor like that. I'm not sure what I would do in that situation but it would be a bad idea and end horribly.

Just got an amazing hand remedy for really dry hands! My friend gave it to me because I'm always messing with cats, dogs, and chickens and washing my hands a million times a day because of it. They get so bad that they crack and anything I touch will cut me. It's just equal parts granulated sugar, honey, and olive oil and you stir it up and use it to scrub your hands and wrists. I put it in a screw top ziploc reusable container and use it a few times a day and my hands were so much better within 2 days. Since my hands were so cut up, I added tea tree oil because it's a natural antibiotic.

Not exactly chicken related but I'm sure I'm not the only one this time of year with this problem so I thought I'd share.

I have season Eczema and it does me the same way. Mine will get so bad I can't use anything on it. Cuts, bleeding, itching..... everything really bothers it. I have to sleep with gloves on and LOTS AND LOTS of creams. I get a prescription for steroids and they help. Have had to get shots too. I HOPE since we moved and we don't have GAS heat that will help. So far I have kept it at bay. Still there just not wearing me out. I have to keep my hands out of water as much as I can. GLOVES are my friend..... I am also taking Turmeric it may help too.

TOTALLY Chicken related as I have to wash my hands all day long around chickens.
