Just got an amazing hand remedy for really dry hands! My friend gave it to me because I'm always messing with cats, dogs, and chickens and washing my hands a million times a day because of it. They get so bad that they crack and anything I touch will cut me. It's just equal parts granulated sugar, honey, and olive oil and you stir it up and use it to scrub your hands and wrists. I put it in a screw top ziploc reusable container and use it a few times a day and my hands were so much better within 2 days. Since my hands were so cut up, I added tea tree oil because it's a natural antibiotic.

Not exactly chicken related but I'm sure I'm not the only one this time of year with this problem so I thought I'd share.
Well I take comfort from the reports of people who have had near death experiences. They report that they review their entire life, NOT as and observer or from their own veiwpoint, but from the veiwpoint of everyone that they interacted with including animals. All the good and evil that was dished out is felt by them in this review. People mean enough to run over my sleeping gander will have a looong list of mean that they will have to review.

I have season Eczema and it does me the same way. Mine will get so bad I can't use anything on it. Cuts, bleeding, itching..... everything really bothers it. I have to sleep with gloves on and LOTS AND LOTS of creams. I get a prescription for steroids and they help. Have had to get shots too. I HOPE since we moved and we don't have GAS heat that will help. So far I have kept it at bay. Still there just not wearing me out. I have to keep my hands out of water as much as I can. GLOVES are my friend..... I am also taking Turmeric it may help too.

TOTALLY Chicken related as I have to wash my hands all day long around chickens.
Try this out! With the eczema though, you may want to add helichrysum, frankincense, thyme, and geranium oils to it. Using oils that absorb faster instead of olive oil would help, too, like jojoba, almond, and coconut. The glove thing seems to work until the 3rd or 4th hand washing of the day for me and then we're back to square one. Since I put the tea tree oil in mine, if my hands aren't super disgusting, I'll use it as a hand wash. I hope it helps. I feel your pain!!! I have 4 three week old kittens in my house right now and my skin was tearing like paper every time I held one.

Have I now outed myself as a hippy? Dammit!

I like to believe in Karma, and therefore, I believe people like that will get what's coming to them in this life......and the next.

Anybody used one of the Brinsea infrared EcoBrooders? What's your opinion on them? We are looking at doing a hatching project with the kids' school and were thinking that would be better from a safety standpoint than a traditional heat source.

I've used one and didn't have any issues. Not much room underneath for too many chicks, though. If it's a school project and you're doing 5 or 6, it's perfect. I found mine brand new at some junk store in Smyrna for $12. They had another one there when I got mine and I wish that I'd bought both. It might still be there but I have no idea the name of the store. It was called The Yard Sale or something along those lines.

Anyone have any high egg producing hens for sale? Faverolles, Plymouth Rocks, or something like that?

HIGH PRODUCTION???? Nothing touches a Leghorn in production..... they lay the BIGGEST EGGS and almost everyday. My rocks are ok layers but they don't lay a large eggs....well some do but not often. I like BIG EGGS for eating that is just MHO. My Cuckoos lay Jumbo and my WL lay even bigger. I have one girl that lays an egg so big that I can't close the extra large egg carton. She lays a little less but still maybe 5-6 eggs a week. I don't know about Faverolles but I would not think they are HIGH production layers.

Easter Eggers, WL.... my orps are good layers of big eggs too. Anybody else with a high production breed?

I don't have any available right now sorry. I have several people that I need to go through my pens for before I can sell any more pullets.

Thanks for the info! I have 5 hens and only 2 lay. My RIR lays daily, the turken just started Monday and has laid 2 (that I've found) since, my houdan hasn't laid since August and the other two haven't started yet. My poor RIR is all alone and needs some buddies and I'd prefer those buddies lay some flippin' eggs unlike the rest of these freeloaders I have. =)
She's a bit of a bully though.
I'm not too picky on the age. I just want a couple that are between 6 weeks and a year. And NO roosters! I'm trying to rehome one right now.

They still have it. Actually posted it on Craigslist. Now they want $30 and when I opened it, there was a defective return slip to Amazon so I passed.
