The Middle Tennessee Thread

I totally understand...I wasn't trying to fluff any feathers (giggle). I really do want hens from good stock! And the investment pays off anyway. I'm the only female on the property out of 3 humans, 2 dogs, and 2 rabbits! And three of those are in teenager stages! So I understand the feed requirements too! I need to balance the hormonal scale around here! LOL And I am sooooo tired of buying someone else's eggs this winter!

It will still be about a month before they will hatch. But I figured I'd offer just in case you haven't found any by then.

I just realized that you wanted older ones. I must have read you post too fast. POL hens are about 20$ a head. Peppers are cheaper because the person hatching doesn't care for the for weeks or months. On the other hand. I don't even know what mine will look like other than they should lay brown eggs and the should be golden/brown in color. So depending on what pops out of my eggs will depend on if I charge same or less than normal price.@Holcombes Chick

Seriously! I was outside at 1:30 this morning and there was a flurry! The Anatolian was barking her head off and I figured some boys had snuck out of the dorm again (I live/work at a boarding school). So I trotted outside with my trusty spotlight and promptly trotted back inside for a bigger jacket! I went and counted my chickens b/c DH is a bit peeved about the number I have and the number I have coming. lol

@FeyRaine - I used to have a pair on Anconas and I loved them. The hen had a pretty large comb and it laid over and looked like a beret once she matured. She laid a nice sized clean white egg nearly everyday after she started laying. She also got to POL much quicker than the other pullets that brooded with her. I would say the only drawback to them was that they wanted to roost in a tree instead of the coop. After I get everything back re established around here, I'll definitely look into getting a flock of anconas.

Wow I don't get on here for a day or two and POW busy busy!
Welcome to all the newbies! Glad you found us, great bunch here!
Donna I am totally stealing your idea on the brooders but will gladly give you full credit when anyone asks about them. Great idea any more pictures? My brother is building mine I will put up pics when he is done.
