The Middle Tennessee Thread

I have never heard of Midway. I have lived in AC and driven on HWY 12 for over 20 years. Scottsboro is about half way. This is the only community I know of on Hwy 12.

I pulled it up on Google Maps and what was called Midway when I was a little girl in the early '70's seems to be Scottsboro now. I even found the Baptist church where the Dinner on the Ground lunches were held and we would play softball behind the church afterward. Well at least those of us who hadn't ate too much. Those ladies could really throw down some good eats! The Midway (now Scottsboro) Church of Christ had such a small building at the time that the dinners were usually held at the Baptist church unless they had a dinner going on that afternoon.

Did you know that on one of the farms in that area there is a vale where Spanish Moss grows. The farmer some 15 or 20 years before the early '70's had vacationed in Florida and brought some back with him and hung it in the trees. The vale has a warmer microclimate than the rest of the area and the Spanish Moss took.

On another farm are the ruins of a Civil War metal foundry. Most of it is gone but the foundation but in the creek beside it is filled with striped blue glass spalling (some as large as 2 fists) that was the by-product of the technology of that time. Somewhere I still have a chunk or two of the glass.

This is a reminder that entries for the Dickson show have to be emailed in by tomorrow midnight. This is an All Breed Double Show - Large Fowl, Bantam and Waterfowl. There will also be a Serama Tabletop Show. Details, directions, etc. can be found on the Volunteer State Poultry Club Facebook page (see post dated March 12).

Hello fellow Tennesseans, I just stepped up my chicken hobby. I got an Eggubator. It holds 48 eggs in an automatic turner. Since I am a noob at incubation other than a broody chicken, I will take all comments good and bad LOL first the system I bought is in Celsius not Fahrenheit. So, that takes some getting use too. The unit held 37.6-37.7c over 24 hours and 50% humidity. Converted it's 99.68 and 99.86F.

I'm calling it a win so far. I have put in 48 of my eggs. Now I just have to watch numbers everyday till lock down day. Should I open up the incubator to candle the eggs for fertility @ week1 or just keep them tight and what hatches, hatches?

I've had people tell me to not disturb them till lock down. Others have said weed out the clear ones. But as you see I have very dark eggs and blue eggs.

I have a low expectation for my first hatch. My roosters aren't proven. This is his first year. I lost my stub this past fall. But they seem to be covering the girls.
Being my first incubator hatch I may fail or the equipment may fail. But if I get 1/4 of them on my first run I'll call it a win.

I have a broody sitting on 12 eggs too. She is a first time mom as well. But I will still use her as proof of fertility for the roosters. I have an Americana and Olive Egger covering the girls. They each have their favorite. The Americana is the beta and only has 3 girls follow him around. Mr.Cheeks has the other 11 - the broody atm.

So here is my new toy. Anyone else have this unit?

The panel hadn't been reset when I took the picture
I had just put in the eggs so all the warning lights and alarm was going off.
The unit it now reads 37.8c 100.04f and 51%humidity
How concerned should I be about the slight temp and humidity difference?
What point should I worry about it?
Thanks

My roo is on his first year and would fertilize a rock if he could. I swear every egg I crack open is fertile, save a few.
