Woot woot I'm so excited. I get to pick up my silkies today. Dh surprised me by contacting the breeder that supplies the local feed store with them and reserved all of this hatch. They should be available today. I hope there are different colors and not just all white. I'll post pics when I get them home.

I would be happy with just white lol I love the solid white and solid black ones

Well the chicken train leaves tonight meeting Donna Amanda dmrippy on the way back home.. lots of chickens. If you would like to purchase any of our chicks or chickens and would want to meet us on our way we would be glad to bring some more. Also some hatching eggs available to.

Just called the store to see how many little ones I'm picking up. He only had 2 hatch. I'm bummed but I have next week's hatch reserved also. My question is will I be able to put next week's chick's in with this week's in the same brooder?

Me too! I have never wanted guineas before, but already the ticks are making me crazy! I found two on my Saturday after working in my flower beds. Arg. I hate the little suckers.

So I live close to the road. Across from me is a park/baseball field. Will the guineas get in the road and will they mess up the ball field? I don't want to annoy the neighbors. We have coyotes and assorted predators as well. Do your guineas go back into a coop at night or do they roost in the trees?

They will want to roost in the trees. Do you have goats or sheep? If you bond them as babies to a grazing animal they will roost near them at night. In Africa they survive by being bonded to the elephants. Other grazing animals are not as formidable as that but do provide a level of intimidation on smaller predators as well as keeping the guineas from wanting to roam where their buddies can't follow.

By the way, it is the girls that cause all the ruckus. If you only have a bachelor flock (no girls to start the screaming) the volume is greatly reduced and if they are screaming it is about something you ought to check on. You can learn the difference in the timbre of their screams after awhile. There is the loud "Some stranger just drove up in the drive" scream versus the hysterical "There are 5 dogs chasing the sheep" scream. (Which brought me running from my neighbor's house to save them.)
