The Middle Tennessee Thread

Thanks. I'm very sad. It was a stray dog some one dumped off. He got my male and 2 of my white silkies. I got him though filled his hind end with buck shot. So now olive oil is all alone. It's sad she keeps calling for poppie.

I need to find a new home for my rooster. The hatchery made a mistake, and I can't have a rooster in my neighborhood. He's a beautiful 12 week EE. He's been vaccinated for Marek's, eats organic food, and is partial free range in my backyard. Please let me know if you're interested. Thanks!

Hi everyone!
I just wanted to come on here and join the rest of ya'll middle Tennesseeans. Now that I am home full time, my husbnad and I started raising chickens this year. We bought a few different breed of chicks from our local TSC back at the end of February, and we are thoroughly enjoying our chickens. Not only the eggs, but more so the interaction we have with them.
At the moment I am trying to figure out what to do for this winter with the waterers. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for how to keep the water from freezing? I hope everyone is having a great day!

Welcome!

Last year was a learning thing for me with waterers. Most of the time here they will only freeze at night so I just dump them and fill them the next day. I find a good thick plastic pan works best but I have used those from the dollar store and they will work but can crack after they get cold. You need a more flexible plastic ore a really really thick one.

There are lots of other things you can do there are heated waterers, you can use a candle in a clay pot...... LOTS and LOTS of threads on BYC for ways to stop freezing water.

Hey all, I STILL have quite a few Silkie chicks for sale. Older and younger chicks. Lots of blues and maybe a couple of blacks. I've hatched so much this year, I can't really remember what I've got
