Does anyone have a cheap source for egg cartons that are compliant with what the state requires for selling farm eggs at Farmers Markets? Would anyone like to go in on a large order for a better discount?
I found the following link from tn.gov/agriculture on Farmers Markets and requirements for selling eggs. Is there an additional requirement on the cartons other than what they list in that document on page 4?

If there are other requirements, can you point me to them? (I have not sold at a FM yet, but will consider it as we grow our flock).

Follow up: what is the FM going rate for a dozen Brown/large eggs?

Other than new labeled egg carton, 41 degrees and washed, I don't know of any. I think some places want you to also candle each egg sold prior to putting it in the carton. In one place I read if they bring their own carton you can refill it, but otherwise cartons cannot be reused.
I think egg prices are all over the map depending on if there is specialty feed and where the FM is located. I have heard $2.00-$5.00/ dozen.

There's actually more requirements than that. I did a little research several months ago. If you sell more than "x" number of eggs, then you must candle, have a separate sink area, wash with non-chlorinated "detergent", etc.

I'll see if I can find it and repost....

I can't get it to copy/paste!!

Here's a screen shot, you can see the main websit name at the top:

My first hatching! Had a tragedy with the 3rd egg and our cat getting to the incubator. Woke up at 2:30 am to the sound of chirping to find the bator on the ground, one chick out, one in shell chirping and one egg ( needed at least another day of development) smashed.

We have 2 very active chirping peeps! One is either a Brahma/Sumatra cross or a Cochin/Sumatra cross and the either is one of 3 hens and Sumatra cross. I post pics this afternoon of our peepers.

I called the TN. Department of Agriculture and talked with the outreach coordinator. The requirements for resale if you have less than 3000 birds are:

No license required.
Unused egg cartons that have your name, address, and the word unclassified on them
The eggs must be washed and sanitized. For sanitizing you can use a solution of 1 T. bleach / gal. water (YUK!) or a vinegar solution (better).
and that's it.
There is also a poultry processing exemption if you process less than 20,000 birds/yr., but I didn't get all the particulars about that.

They were very friendly and helpful!

Fun fact-
In Europe it is illegal to wash and egg for resale. They feel it promotes uncleanliness if you wash them. They may be smarter that us. There is a new study out (from Sweden) that kids have more allergies if their food has been sanitized/sterilized/disinfected.
