As long as they can get away from the heat if they need too.So we just got 3 chicks from co op, and are set up, but I am worried the light is too close[/IMG]![]()

Just a head's up.....a friend emailed me tonight warning me about the 250W Tractor Supply heat bulbs. She had one spontaneously ignite in one of her chicken tractors last week. I had one in a horse stall for chicks and today when I turned it off to remove it, the bulb was untouchable for a good ten minutes. Even after I unscrewed it, the base stayed too hot to touch for another 5-10 minutes. I replaced it with a regular 100W lightbulb and I feel much safer and it's putting out plenty of heat for the chicks. So we just got 3 chicks from co op, and are set up, but I am worried the light is too close![]()

Quote: I HATE those red heat lamps.... I don't use them at all! They get way too hot especially this time of year.
I can help you no problem. Might not be 40 eggs but like 18 mix breeds so they can see egg color and chicks in all colors too.Anyone have any fertilized eggs they are willing to donate (or sell at a reduced price) for a school hatching project? Our family has backyard chickens but since we are in the Nashville city limits we have no roosters. I will be doing a hatching project for my son's first grade class and am in need of some eggs to set in the bator.
Not particular on breed, however, it would be neat to be able to show the kids the different colors/sizes of eggs and variations in how the chicks look. My bator holds 40 or 41 eggs a I am looking to set on either April 22nd or 29th.
Happy to deliver the newly hatched chicks (once the eggs are all done) back to you if you like or we will find them homes. Not looking to sell them, just want to teach kids about life cycles and how cool chickens are. ;-)
Thanks in advance!!!
