The Middle Tennessee Thread

Ok Middle Tennessee chicken guru's I want you to tell me how much you would ask for these girls if they were yours. Recently I posted some Golden Sex link pullets for sale. They are around 1 year old. They are great layers. They were a part of a 4H program and won the show. Normally hybrid egg production layers are not used in 4H but they action extremely well when the kids sell them in our county so they have went with a sex links the last few years. Plus you know they are all pullets. They were blood tested by the state vet at the show and are healthy chickens. I have 6 and they could produce 2-3 dozens large eggs a week and that is conservative. They are pictured in my profile pic. So what would you price them at????

I live out I-40 east also. What kind of chickens do you have? Do you have pictures?

I do not have pictures of my chickens. I definitely need to do that soon! As soon as the winter cover is off the chicken tractor, I will have decent light to make a good picture, if they cooperate. I have 3 Rhode Island Reds, 3 White Leghorns, and 2 barred Plymouth Rocks. I am getting 8 pullet chicks in mid March, likely 6 RIRs and 2 black sex links.

They are at prime production right now. You will rob yourself if you drop under $10 per bird. I think that they are worth $15 per bird especially since they have had the blood test. I would offer them at $15 (stressing that they have been blood tested) if someone wants one or two. If someone wants all six maybe give them a group rate at $12 per bird. Post on Craigslist both for your area and on the Nashville list too.

You actually could get $20 or more for them. Spring is when people are wanting started birds at point of lay. Since there are mostly chicks available in the spring young pullets are at a premium.
Make sure you have factored in the actual cost of raising them to this size. No sense losing money on them.

I agree with @CityGirlintheCountry . Those look like really nice hens. You have had them this long, so why not wait a few more weeks and a better price? You have put a lot of time, money and effort into them.

Next saturday I will be NEAR Rural King in Clarksville..... I think I might have to stop and see what they have. My last hatch failed and it was all technical. I might have 10 chicks.... sad... sad.... sad. I really need more White Leghorn pullets. Might get some Easter Eggers too. Anybody been there lately? I hope they have some left by saturday.
