It could be Mareks. there is ONE sure fire way to know.... did the eye color change? I had a cockerel get it and he survived a long time and if they survive they can pass on some resistance to chicks. Another thing I see more often is cock/erels will be too rough and cause a leg issue. They can recover from it if caught early enough and removed from the cock/erel so she can heal.

I don't think her eye color changed, they look dark brown/black. Is Mareks common in this in area? I'm afraid that's what it is, but I thought most younger birds got it? I do not have a rooster. Should I put her down? :(

Anyone interested in Marans Roosters? I'm overloaded with roosters they have to go real soon or in going to Cull them. I've already began. I have Black Copper, Blue Copper, Blue Splash and Blue Marans. They were hatched in late January and early February. They're currently in Dover.

Hi all. Just wondering if anyone knew of anyone in the Spring Hill, Columbia, Mt Pleasant area that would have chicks for sale? We lost most our flock (only 3 left out of 19) to a raccoon week before last. Caught the dang thing red handed in the coop at 7 a.m. Managed to hit it but not kill it.

Are there any suggestions for local breeders in the area? I've been researching the different hatcheries online but can't stand the thought of chicks being shipped in a box on a UPS truck and opening up to find them dead. I'm such a softie.

We also have an incubator so could possibly hatch some out (that's how we built the previous flock). Also, have you used the online hatcheries? McMurray, Ideal, Meyer, etc?

Sorry about your flock :( My first chicks I ordered from mypetchicken.com, and they all arrived fine, but I agree, not the best way. My next batch, I bought fertile eggs from DMRippy, and put them under a broody silky.
