it started to snow here around 3pm. i went out to give the peeps their treat by the time i got out of the coop the ground was cover by snow. it still snow we got 1inch so far

I am on day 5 now with the eggs you gave me. I am trying to wait until Sunday before candling ... so I'll 'really' know if they are good or not. What should I be looking for at day 7-8 ... viens? air sac? other?


Just for the 'fun' of it I candled the cracked egg ... went in the bathroom shut off the lights and candled the egg. I could see a dark mass clear as day .. soooooooooo I broke open the egg and DUH it was a yolk. So, because all eggs (fertile or not) have a yolk I'm thinking I can't depend on the 'mass' as my guide to a good egg.

Be careful coming home..by the time you get to Northern Wilson Co the snow is piling up fast...and still coming down
Look for veins mostly right now..it takes a good flashlight to see through the green eggs.By Sunday you will know for sure what you have and if you question it leave it in there just to be safe.Yes,that mass is a good thing

.Cracked eggs will often pick up too much bacteria to make it but if you accidentally crack one a little wax will often seal it fine.I've had them hatch and not hatch so if I have the space I will leave them and see what happens-unless they start stinking

emmalynn- they are adorable. Sadly, my Original Dog is a stuffie menace. She would have the innards strewn about the room in about 45 seconds and then would empty the beannie sack of plastic pellets all over the hardwood. From experience, I will step on the invisible ones and have to hop about the room cussing like a sailor, which in turn will scare the cats into hiding. It would be kind of a destructo version of "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie".

Good luck finding them a new home though.



It's nasty out there. By the time class let out the roads were covered. I crept home. When I went out to lock everyone up, the silly silkies were roosting on the door jamb. All of them had snow piled up on their tail feathers! Silly chickens didn't go all the way inside the nice, dry coop. Nope. They decided to snooze out in the snow. I brushed them off and shut the door. Goofy little silkies.

Y'all be careful. This snow feels wetter than the other. Tomorrow morning might be tricky as we all trek out to open coops.

We are having a wet, slick snow here. My hubby couldn't get to his VFD training tonight it was so icy. The NOAA weather alert said black ice tonight and tomorrow morning.

And what's up with the chicks roosting outside? For the last week here my chickens haven't gone in there warm cozy roomy coop, instead I find them roosting on the top of the truck outside. One day it was raining on them and last night they were covered with snow and ice. I don't understand this? ..... oh and I just noticed last night one is missing all it's feathers on it's neck = molting. silly chickens

Morning all! Looks like a nice day for a little sunbathing, and maybe a dip in the pool. Could even fire up the grill later!

Seriously though, hope everyone got where they need to be safely last night and this morning. Shelly, how did you do? You have such a long drive.

CityGirl, glad you made it home. When it came down, it came fast.

Holly, looks like you'll be tucked in there for a day or two, eh! Hope you did all your shopping already. Hey, can't you declare those chicks as dependents?? Hmmmm, I guess marking down 200+ dependents on your tax forms might raise a flag or two.

We have about four inches up here! and it was 10 when I got up.I got a bunch of extra rabbits this week so all my bowls are being used so I guess I will be thawing water bowls all day!Its abeautiful snow,stuck to everything!I put a little extra out for the wild birds this morning,they were so busy at the feeders.
