The Middle Tennessee Thread

The storms were scary. I was out in it getting all chickens in coops and locking everyone up. I put all the brooder babies in the tub I did not know what else to do I was not going to leave them. We are all fine thank goodness. That was the first time I was really scared. I hope everyone else came through as well as we did.

Jenski glad you are ok I guess we will all be dealing with wet runs. I am going to try and dig a ditch behind the coops and replace the hay in the runs. Yucky!

Just some of the almost 40 vey cute and fuzzy babies I hatched out

I have more pics on my facebook and will update the website soon too much work today to do it now.

Beliver sorry about your horse and no I did not measure the winds I just got the info from the news. However accurite that is.

Dalton is coming up quick I hope to see some of you all out there. I will be taking a few to show if they don't try and go broody. Maybe someone will show up with more showgirls.

DH went down to the coop this morning and noticed our Great Pyraneese lying there....humph...well she got into a fight with a possum and won!! Now he finally appreciates her YAY!!! Go DAISY I told him she knew what she was doing even though she is Hudini climbing 7 ft fence....a whole different story.... but glad she did her job and he saw it now he will leave me alone

Great hatch. I just love hatching. I was counting on you to take some of these new babies though. haha. Maybe I will sell them in Dalton if they do not sell before then. I had to go buy more feeders and waterers uuggh. I still have almost a full bator going with lots of showgirl eggs in that one. Yay. Going back out to work on the runs they are not as bad as I expected.

I'm bilingual!!!
I can talk Chickenese!

As I raked the old straw/hay out of the pen, I uncovered all sorts of delectable looking buggies. Even when the girls were on the other side of the coop from me, I could make a buck-buckkkkk sound and they'd all come running. After a bit they just followed me and my rake.

We had a few close calls ~ silly girls almost hit my rake with their hard lil' noggins a few times.....prolly would of busted my rake!

I finally had to switch raking back and forth. They'd get interested in what I uncovered on one side and work it for a minute, giving me time to go rake on the other side for a minute.

Excuse me, but am I the only one who's chickens have her so well trained?

Guess I'm going to have to wear blinders when I read on here for awhile, so's I'm not tempted with all those adorable little feet and faces and fuzz.....Tisha and 1NewEgg your babies are precious!!!

Believer most of us on here don't mind non chicken posts and lots of us do have horses as well.Jenski beat me to it...try and see if there is a trigger weather feed etc that may be causing it.Horses are so very sensitive to everything...have owned and raised them for 35 years now.

my bantam cochin's are so small they are getting through the wire in the brooder so they live in a rubbermade container ok they lived in one then today a big ol fat hen snuck in behind me landed in there on top of 4 of my Mille Fleurs and killed them

she almost looked like chicken dinner for a minute. It's been one of those days.I have a few bantam cochin's in the incubator still and a few must have been on the other side of the box so I still have a few but only 1 MF...glad more are hatching again soon.. Lavender Orps are going to lockdown tonight

Jenski-your coops won't be the same without those little cochin sweeties.I sold that black roo with gold hackles and a black mottled hen today.I can sell about any breed here but it's so hard to let the little cochin's go.
We survived the storms once again...we lost power a few times just long enough to mess up the clocks but all the chickens stayed safe and mostly dry..so glad we put a drainage system around the chick house..a little water got over it but nothing like it would flood without it out there. Now,we can fix the little spot with issues and next storm it will be dry in there.Without any heat on inside it's staying between 75-80 degrees so leaving the window's open at night...guess heating it won't be much of a problem

Oh Holly! I feel so sorry for you. How awful! Wonder why the big butt thought she'd want to hop into a rubbermaid?

Thanks for the reassurance bout the horse post. Been too nice outside to try to find the other thread - I can't do much at once (ankle) but I keep going out and doing a bit at a time. Love this weather!!! I'll stay inside once the sun goes down.

From what I've read so far it doesn't sound like lepto for the mare. But summer of 2009 (the real rainy one) one of our other horses kept trying to get moon blindness and the vet wondered about lepto so I s'pose it's possible. Errrrr - so hard trying to figure out what's wrong with somebody who can't talk to you!

Does anybody else have a bunch of green stuff outside? I seem to remember lots of this color in Nov but it's been pretty pale.

And since you talk chickenese please come tell my showgirls to start laying more.

Calling in my entry for the Datlon show this morning it will be the Showgirls and a couple of silkies. I was hoping to show Bells to see how her small crest faired with some of the huge crest. She is perfect else where but she is not vaulted. I have read it does not matter but wanted to see for myself. She just isn't ready just yet so next time.
