The Middle Tennessee Thread

Thanks Tisha, but obviously I need to do more than enlarge my coop. Thought we had the flooding problems fixed when we had a swale dug across the horse pasture to divert water from our yard. Not working. Hubby isn't the most motivated and we can't afford to have someone else do what's needed so I'm looking at moving the pen to a spot that doesn't flood. My big girls made it ok with the water in the pen, but babies would have been drowned.

I'd still like to come look at your setup sometime if you don't mind. Always looking for ideas.

Lotsa luck with the show!

My set up at this time is nothing fancy I am maiking do till the move. I am getting 2 more hutches soon as I get a hand in moving them. So I am super excited about that. Come anytime but don't expect to leave empty handed.

I will have one empty seat, and a few spots for carriers on the way to Dalton if anyone wants to hitch a ride with Cathy, Connie and myself. The train leaves Woodbury at 3ish. It is gonna be fun.

Morning everyone! It's a bit chilly here, but it looks to be a lovely day. Yesterday turned out really nice, too! No wind at all. I didn't know what to think. (And thank you, lovely weather people, for being 10 degrees low in your prediction, LOL! I enjoyed your error very much.)

It seems quiet and relatively empty without my little fuzzies. I am running pretty lean on birds here now, and I think I will try to leave it that way for the time being.

Oh Holly, I am so sorry to hear about your chick accident! I have had very good luck using an old rabbit cage for a bantam brooder. The cage is at least 24" x 24." The bottom is solid plastic and has sides that come up a few inches to keep the drafts down, the bars are close together, and there are doors on front and top so you can control entry. I was even able to snap a clamp lamp to the top.

sunflower, congrats on your move! It's great weather to do it, that's for sure.

believer, glad to hear your training is coming along.

My chickens have me trained for fetching snacks, opening doors, more fetching snacks, and general housekeeping. They occasionally throw me an egg or two as my reward.

1newegg, congrats on your hatch! Thanks for posting pictures of your little fuzzies. It's so hard to believe they start out so small! What a miracle it is watching them hatch and grow. It almost restores this old cynic's faith in the world. Almost.

And it looks like SimplySplendid had a nice hatch too! Looks like they're lined up for a Broadway show. Can they high-kick in unison?

CluckyJay, thanks for the day lily pic. That must have been around JUNE. I love it when those come into bloom!

I think CityGirl is out of town today, but I am going to be harassing her soon if she doesn't come back to the sandbox and play with us.

Have a good day, everyone! Enjoy the weather.

Pictures will be posted as soon as I can figure it out. The Orps and Cochins have adjusted wonderfully as well. They are enjoying the chicken tractor on wheels that dear hubby made for them and the beautiful weather too.

Birds were pretty subdued this morning . . . until the egg laying started. Now I can hear one of the banty hens fussing out in their coop. Seven nest boxes and a huge loft for eight hens, and they still fight over space. *sigh*

Well, looks like we're in for another bout of rain. Hope you've all got your coops ready. believer01, I was thinking about you and your floody coop. Do you have a battle plan for the weekend? Hope everything works out alright.

Troyerchicks, congratulations on your new babies! Let's see some pics.

1newegg, why don't you check with CityGirlintheCountry re. Ameraucana eggs? I think she has BBS; not sure if she divided them into single-color pens.

HBuehler, whatcha doing today? Are you all ready for another round of rain?

CityGirl, you back yet?

Shelly_WNC, where are you girl? Haven't heard from you since long before the storms last week.. Hope all is well. I think I saw your Appy on craigslist . . .

OklaDD, got any new fabulous birds lately?

I started working on some breeding/color pages for a couple of the bantam breeds, if anyone is interested. If you have rare breed birds, and/or you are working to perfect a color, I strongly encourage you to create a photo gallery on your own websites or on your BYC page so others can see what you're raising. It has been so helpful for me to see what others are doing, and it's much easier to look at a collection of photos than to wade through a million threads to collect information. Anyhoo, here is a link to one of my project pages: https://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=12029-bootedbantams-butterscotch

Jenski: I have...that is the first one I thought of....we are talking but I don't know if she has them separated yet...I know she is way busy...

I am not looking forward to more rain *sigh*....cant summer come without all the rain

at least not at once

Jen, thanks for the heads up. Didn't know we had another "event" on the way. Just told hubby, hoping we could do something today to prevent more damage. Let me just say that if something doesn't affect his hunting, fishing, softball or work....he's just not going to bother much about it. So I'll be calling some friends to see if I can get some help moving my pen/coop this afternoon. That's going to be easier than fixing our drainage problems. Last week my ankle wouldn't have allowed me to go to their rescue if the water got too high - at least this week I could bring them to safety if need be.

I'm with 1NewEgg - rain yes! Not all at once!

Everyone stay safe!!!
