Oops - correction to my post above....

the death rate wasn't in the 80s - 90's.....that actually used to be the average life span of people in the US. So instead of our life expectancy "increasing" to 76, it first decreased greatly and is now on the rise. Convoluted, eh?

You know, if we got super organized we could make these meet ups educational. I imagine each one of us knows how to do something that the others woud like to learn. I would love to learn more about fermenting food. Oh gosh... that would make us a club, wouldn't it?

It would be cool though to learn all the cool things that y'all know how to do.

Then there would be an official club for the crazy chicken people..
My hatch is going like rest of my week

What a great idea, CityGirl! Perhaps each time we meet up we could have a couple folks give 15 min presentations on a certain topic......I'd love to learn more about how to recognize when a hen needs something in the way of help (i.e. nutrition, fats, vitamins, etc) or how to recognize molt in the off season. I can read bout these things but would love some examples/pics from real life! (I have a girl whose feathers look terrible, but she is a consistant layer.....is this normal?).

Raven here is Moron not sure I want to sell him..may sell the young splash boy.Don't "need" to sell any of them but don't need to keep the entire flock either.I'm using them for a little project right now.Took the pics yesterday so he's doing the wind blown look

What a gorgeous boy!!! He does the wind blown look quite well. Maybe you can get him a gig as a photog's model?

I got lots of pictures of him being himself yesterday..strutting crowing and living up to his name

His ladies just shake their head at him and walk away. The splash copper is more mellow but he's much younger and still afraid the hens are going to eat him

Holly - I agree your Moron Roo is absolutely beautiful.

Fermenting sounds good to me too. I was going to 'try' canning this year, never have canned before. I use to do the Kefir cultures and the mancharin mushroom tea so I'm pretty open to all kinds of good health stuff *smile*.

Okla-doodle-doo - you have 73 turkens, those are the naked necks rights? Yeah what are you doing with all of those - meat birds or for sale?

Oh boy this cold dreary weather is giving me winter flash backs - and that's NOT good. This kinda weather just makes me lazy and not want to do chores outside, even though this is when I know I should be doing hard jobs (so I don't have to work up a sweat).

My family from Florida is here and there are really not use to this cold but they are such good sports they were outside most the day anyway - feeding all the farm animals and hiking up the hill in the back. I'm praying for over 50 degrees and sunny tomorrow.

Stay warm all!!!

No they aren't all turkens! And they are all bantams anyway, well except for maybe 5 or 6 that are largs Americannas. Had another hen hatch today so now I have 80 plus! Sure hope it warms up soon,Wife isn't likeing them all in the house!
Anyone need a pig? I have this one for sale or will trade for chickens or other critters!
