Goodness 1HappyFamily, I got tired just reading about your busy weekend....what a blast. How old is the young lady now? And welcome back!
Econman, I 'borrowed' a fertile egg for a broody last summer.....and the 'baby' is now the largest (RIR) of my 5 hens and we are still referring to her as "The Baby"!!! Hope your young 'un enjoys it!
I use both wild mullein and store bought. From the health food store it's only about $2.38 for a pound of dried and that goes a looooong way. Convenient. But I've imported plants and scattered seeds so that we'll have a good crop here eventually. Very easy to harvest and use. The leaves are only good during the 1st year (it's a biennial), so once it's putting up that center stalk it's past medicinal use. Just hang the leaves in a dry spot out of direct sunlight till crumbly. Don't use any plants that grow within 20' of the road, railways, parking lots, under power lines b/c of the chemicals/fumes. Those pretty yellow flowers can be covered in olive oil to make a wonderfully soothing oil for ear infections.
Jenski, once again you are the awesome one with all your information! Thanks!!!
TSC didn't have any liquid yesterday so I got the paste, which we'll use on the horses anyway. It is a 10% solution. I can extract a tiny bit with a syringe or eye dropper....the first marked dose is for a 250# animal so obviously that'll be a bit much.
Many of the droppings are just loose versions of 'normal', but 2 girls definitely have some other issues. Warning - weak stomachs leave off here - slimy mucus & beige colored urates, with little dark brown 'turds' floating in the middle. One has been doing some tarry, black stuff. And every morning the sand in the coop has a number of slushy puddles rather than nicely formed droppings. And I've heard those two, first thing in the morning go "squishhhhhh" ~ Betsy had a long string of off white hanging off after one such......pulled it out with a tissue - couldn't tell if it was a worm or mucus (looked too translucent to be a worm, but who knows).
Looks like I'm going to have to buy eggs for the next 2 weeks.....dang, I'm so spoiled.
