The Middle Tennessee Thread

Tish, I thought they lived closer. The games are Sat morning, 9 - 11. The Senior Center (sponsor of Ol'Time Days) hasn't done the games for a few years, so no one knows how many kiddo's will turn out, but I guess it used to get quite a few.

I just came in from the yard....what ever happened? It's gone from wet and chilly to warm and sunny. I'm not complaining ..... Really, I'm Not!

Tish,
Send it to my home email. I don't know about Sunday but I am going to east TN on Saturday to pick up my doe. I go down thru Manchester. That isn't too far from you is it? Would you be able to meet me Saturday?

HI everyone! I have a few roosters I need to give away if anyone is interested. I have a white leghorn, a RIR and a BO. They are 9 weeks old. The leghorn just started crowing. I live pretty close to Henry Horton State Park/Shelbyville/Columbia area. Would be willing to meet!
Also wondering if anyone has any silkie hens around 8-10 weeks of age?

Thanks!

on my way home today as I turned onto my road I saw a Summer reminder to all
A riding lawnmower, 2 County Police cars and an ambulance. Beside the mower was the father/husband overlooking all I could see was a smaller arm being held by a medic rest of the person was either under or beside the mower.I can only hope it isn't one of the kids. But a reminder kids don't belong on or around riding mowers
On a much lighter note

Help, help!!

Scarlett's belly is nekkid! Really! She seemed ok first thing this am, then round mid day I took some food scraps out to them and she and Gypsy seemed to be 'gasping'. Made me think of what I've read about them having trouble breathing when they have gape worms. But the Fenbendazole 2 days ago should have taken care of gapeworms.

Anyway, I let them out to range the yard about 4:00 and Scarlett stayed under the coop. I brought her in to check her over. There was blood on the base of one toe, holding that leg up at first like it hurt. Soaked and washed it, looks like nothing serious. But I felt something night right so I layed her in my lap and her breast and belly are just as clean as a plucked chicken. There's what looks like baby new feathers around her face, a few on the neck but none on belly/breast. Lots of feathers scattered around the coop and pen......not like when she was attacked, where they were all in 2 big piles.

Somebody plesae tell me this is normal molting.

She's making a baby bed

.When she's done all of her under body feathers will be gone. She will stay in her coop and not move most of the time.
As for the breathing she's hot and cold and hot ..this weather extreme is real hard for them to adjust to.We have 2 doing the hard breathing thing 1 I got her back to normal in a few hours the other is older and she's taking longer.
I caught one of my F1 Olive Eggers in the nest today so she's laying a.....light mint green egg

Easter Egger hen for sale looks just like a Marans with a pea comb.

My Scarlett is named after Scarlett O'Hara....the famous lady in red who didn't get broody! Thanks ladies, but not this chickie. I had a broody last summer and fall - none of the same actions. My Scarlett has lost many feathers around her head and neck - and I don't think broodies do that.

I kept her in a few hours. Washed her little foot, gave her some garlic tonic and cool water. When she went out, she squealed for joy, hopped down and ran off after a bug. So I guess it wasn't too serious. Still concerning though.
