I'm in the same boat here. I have names for all my chickens (14 of them) and my neighbor thinks I'm crazy. My husband just shakes his head but I think he likes the fact I'm losing some "citiness" and keeping chickens.

AH don't worry about it...most people thought I was crazy being from NY (they assume NYC) and having chickens....been here for 12 yrs lost my northern accent and became chicken addicted...My family and friends now ask me how the animals are or for some fresh eggs

so don't worry... my DH says he wants nothing to do with them but he is the first to try to make thier lives easier even putting them on roosts LOL!!! I am an enabler and try to get everyone into them I love it!!!

Growing up I spent winters in FL..I don't know how many people thought NY was NYC and had to explain that it was a State and NYC is actually a little dot on the map near NJ

Then I would get the repeated VT what State is that in? Oh I don't know I guess the State of New England

He's the guy that said 6 layers and he was only building one coop...well you know how that turned out..then he said 3 rabbits and I won't build them a hutch..no he won't he's building the rabbit house...last we are keeping NO kittens so he named the lone survivor Lucky and he's not going anywhere...I wonder why do they bother

Im 18 and wanted to just start off small like a small tractor and have maybe 3-4 chickens, ended up building a decent sized coop....then when I bought the chicks I bought 5...then said ok ill tske a few more. Ended up with 10... Then I buy a roo... Then show my mom silkies... BIG MISTAKE!!!!!! Now we have 12 silkies... And 4 cochin bantams and a few others... I ended up with 30 something and now Im hatching. 3 coops. Hahaha. My mom is hooked on it to!

Thankfully there are lots of breeds of chickens so everyone can find their favorite

Countrypunk..no matter the breed if you start getting some breeding quality birds $35 is a real low price to pay. I'm tickled when I can find a good bird that cheap.

They are wonderful...guess that's why we have so many.I'm still undecided if we will be showing them at Crossroads this year...12,000 birds are entered and the bantam Cochin division is always a favorite so lots in those classes.I know mine do fine in big shows but there are big shows like Ohio Natls and Ft Worth Natls where mine have done very well and then there are BIG shows and Crossroads is going to be the biggest. To make it worse mine have been outside playing so not in top feather condition.
I will be bringing back some Wyandotte's from the top pens while I'm there
