Rain..oh the wet stuff we don't get...glad your enjoying it.We saw the lightning tonight up your way.
Good lops don't have very long ears-unless it's one of those English lops but those are big with bowing 747 ears three times bigger than they are

Oh you know it's hot when an abandoned stash of eggs start to hatch without the broody.I thought I must have missed one that had pipped when she left several days ago so I tapped the egg and it talked to me..so that silkie I questioned went broody today now she can have a chick quicker than she thinks

I was thinking the other day "Who needs and incubator with this weather?" when I was collecting eggs. That is too funny!!!

Yes I did, now I do the float test thing. Don't want to toss the babies out with the bath water. I saw lighting too when I went out to get my rabbit. Oh boy rain, no such luck.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Country Punk!

Well, I have lost another hen to the heat.

My silkies have been broody all summer. I have tried unsuccesfully to break them. I finally just gave up and tried to keep them cool. This last round of insane heat I ended up taking all the eggs away and putting them in the bator in an effort to get the girls off the nest. All but one had given up by yesterday. I kept tossing her off the nest to no avail. She insisted on sitting in the furthest corner of the coop under the nest boxes (the hottest part that had no breeze at all). She died yesterday afternoon. The thermometer said 103.

Poor baby. She was one of my original buff silkies and was a determined little mama.

I hate, hate, HATE this heat. Fall needs to get here soon.

Oh, so sorry, yesterday was brutal. I'm going out there right now and give mine a bath and see if that will work. She has been siting on eggs for 8 weeks I know.

That's just it, Silkietime. These darn silkies just won't give up on the broodiness. This girl has been broody more or less all summer. They are so focused on hatching that even when the eggs hatch they still just sit there. The other silkies have taken over the babies. I love that they are broody. I just wish they weren't so determinedly broody.
