The Middle Tennessee Thread

If anyone is interested... I am going to sell my RIRs. I have 1 Roo almost 3 I think, 3 RIR pullets and 4 RIR x NH pullets. I think 5 are laying and the others will be very soon. If anyone want more info just PM me.

Is anyone interested in a black Blue Laced Red Wyandotte cockerel?
He is 7 weeks old, and I can officially tell that he is a male. I can not keep roosters in city limits, but was thinking he would make a good breeder for someone. If bred with a splash BLR then all of their chicks will be BLUE laced red. (black x splash = 100% blue).

The Blue-Copper I got from Raven 1 is a successful Rooster Pulled 12 out of lock down tonight will take pictures and post tomorrow when they go to the barn. Not bad had two power outages and the motor on the turner went bad so we only turned them twice a day,

ok just read about sex linxs. how do you tell the sex by the color of the birds? i dont get it.

Some are easy. My sex links I would use a barred hen with a solid color roo. All the roos will have a spot on their head. The females determine the genders and the barring genes are only carried on the male gene. Some are little trickier. Some hatch with slight color differences. Like the roos will be lighter in color or something like that. The normal sex links are with barred rock pullets and a solid roo ie NH, RIR, really any roo that is not barred, even the Copper Marans would work for sex links, but I would use a cuckoo Marans hen for them. I use an Easter Egger roo and made sex links and he was columbian looking. I don't the pattern on the roo counts he just has to be a solid color to start with and not barred. I know you can make the with Laced Wyandottes, I will have to look that up when I get them grown.

OH BTW anybody... I am doing a test hatch of the neighbors SLW if anybody is looking.... 5 doz eggs that is my test hatch

might be interested. then i could just get all my birds from you. Question for you, where did you get the pallets you used inside only ? you had dividers and screen doors on them. looks lithey would be good for an indoor brooder box.

That is exactly what I use them for, grow out pens. When they are too small to go outside. I got them at a place off Old Hickory BLVD but they don't seem to have them anymore

I have driven by there several time and they are GONE. They were stacked sky high before and it is clean as can be now. I cleaned one of the pens the other day and it had not been divided off and I don't have anymore that fit....

You could use them outside too if you used hardware cloth and secured them to something. It is nice thick wood like a 1 x 6... probably exactly what it is LOL. If they have them again I will let you know.

There is a guy on CL under the FREE part that has GREAT shipping creates for brooders, all it need is screen. He has been offering them every week now. You have to take 8 at a time and they will not fit in a regular truck bed with out straps.
