I have some BR hatching Monday the 9th and maybe some NH... if not the NH are in the next batch to hatch the 20th so that will be fine. I had to stop hatching because of my trip... I didn't want my son to have a TON of biddy babies to tend to while I was gone. Just let me know how many you want of each. I don't have the Wheatens yet I have some growing and I will let you know about a roo. If you want a Marans roo I can pick them out by 2 weeks usually, if not at hatch.

My son (the landscaper) had his guys over today to landscape around my chicken house. I told him to make it look pretty - and I think he succeeded!

This next photo shows my garden - nothing planted yet except in the boxes - but DH did finally plow the garden area yesterday.

Hi all, we new to chickens, actually we are just setting up. Our first hatch was this morning and we got 1 Amaraucana out of 8 eggs and 0:7 Silkies. I am reaching out to find people in the Clarksville and surrounding areas to talk to and meet up with. Please let me know if you are near by. I would really like to find some nearby people with fertile eggs.

As for our story; my wife has always wanted a hobby farm and I have always liked the idea and recently was hit pretty hard with the bug which is what got us started. My wife is the researcher/dreamer and I am the compulsive "let's do it" one. We are both in the Army, have two boys, 4 and 2, two big dogs, and now 4 chicks (hopefully hens). This run of chickens is kind of our stepping stone for later, we will be moving in 2 years and plan on having a lot more land which will mean a lot more animals when my wife gets her way. We like the idea of self sustaining land with out being full time farmers so we will see how that works out. We also have a pretty nice garden that is a bit eclectic since we have other hobbies like home brewing. We have three vines of hopps that I planted this year

. We would love to meet some more people with similar crack-pot hobbies so hit us up. I hope to hear from some of you and make some new friends. Talk to you later.

Hi James and welcome to the Middle TN group. I'm in Franklin - so not very close to Clarksville.

Donna - yes we kept the EE roo. We had advertised him to Craigslist a couple months ago - and had someone who wanted him, but when we went out to catch him, my husband and I looked at each other and neither of us wanted to get rid of him. So we called the folks and cancelled the sale. I love to hear him crow, and I'm so glad we decided to keep him. He has fathered some really cute chicks - can't wait till the pullets are old enough to lay so I can see what color egg gene he passed on to them. We hatched eggs from several of our EEs and from our Ancona. The Ancona chicks are really gorgeous - and one of the EEs is, too.

Carmen - thanks - the chicken house is bigger and nicer than the first house DH and I had when we first got married back in 1969. LOL!

The @%$#%$@@ broody that was sitting on 3 eggs abandoned them yesterday. I'm not going to let her sit on anymore. That's twice now that she's gone a few days and then just quit. Definitely NOT a good mother!
