The Migratory/Ornamental Waterfowl INFO Thread

I called my friend a little bit ago and he said just what you did!!! Its the animals they are tuff on not so much the birds. He said he was selling his pure Java peafowl pair for 400 if I wanted em ( I think he said he gave 700 for them )and they are baby makers like Ive never seen. But I told him I dont think my neighbors would like that early morning wake up call. They are cool looking birds though. He has alot of different kinds but he said those were the rarest. .So I talked to Nava on the florida thread about the NPIP and she said easy. So decided to get them both. So I will be legal and ready for this fall short of a hurricane. Hope not though. We havent had to deal with those for a while. Thank God.

$400 for pure java's is a steal even as yearlings, those take 3 years to reach breeding age, so by then they cost a grand on average for nice ones. and they dont lay much on average, so if they are pure, breeders, and baby makers, I'd jump on them, LOL

Heck with the neighbors

really the greens arent as vocal as all the other blue mutations anyway. I've got 9 javas and 4 imperators and you rarely hear them, and God yes they are a beautiful bird.

I think you'll be glad to get the NPIP. Shipping eggs is easy to get away with, just dont label them eggs, but on birds it's kinda obvious, they dont now to be quite in the box for you

and yes, it's just a quick blood test and a band on the leg and you're done with it. everyone passes, hasnt been a case of pullorum done here in years, I think my guy said it had been 20 years since there was one in Georgia with it.

When you get it, ask them to send you a list of the individual state requirements too. I didnt know when I got mine that some states require EVEN MORE stuff. I thought NPIP was it. Wrong, some require state import permits, some require avian influenza test, some MG or MS test, and some need recent Avian Vet Health Certificates.

Most dont, and NPIP is good, but the ones that do, are butts about it, and will give you a written warning the first time, the second time is a fine.

Ones that need state approval import permits are
DL, FL, GA,IL,IO,KA,ML,MN,MO,MT,NB,OK,SD,TX,UT,VT,VI, HI, AK

Some of those are easy, some really dont care like GA and FL, and some like Virginia and Hawaii, you just cant get legal enough to ship into.

But their little state by state spread sheet will show you what each requires so you wont have any surprises. That's why you see some many places on line that say, sorry cant ship to Virginia. I did and got caught on some ebay eggs last year, and they sent me one of the nastiest letters you ever saw, pretty much dared me to do it again, they'd send a hit man down here and rub me out..

I hear ya. His Java's are 5-6yrs and pure for sure, At the very least I will get some babies if he doesnt get rid of them .He would give them to me but I make him take some money. Yea I noticed they never seemed to make noise like all his other ones. He has them in their own huge pen away from his peacock runs. They are however frantic birds and his others could care less. Ill start tommorrow on the permits.

yep, that's the only draw back to green ones of any species, they hate to be around people and are very flighty when you get around them. I keep mine in 25 x 50's just to give them plenty of room to get away from me when I feed up, as long as you move slow and easy in the pen, they are fine that way.

do they NPIP the ducks too?? All of them or just a few. I need to read up on MS rules. When calling to find out if I had to have State Permit the Wildlife & Fish people sent the Ag people. They said all bird are supposed to be tested or have certificate. I don't remember. You do have to have State Permit for Quail and Pheasants.

Yea the ducks too.It may be all or percentage, depends on the tester. I found this out on my fla thread. go to a miss thread and see what they say. let me know how your fed permit goes later.

yep they test all forms of bird except pidgeons.
By Federal rule in the book, they are supposed to test all birds you have up to 300.
But like Destin said, that all depends on the tester, but the first time, I'd count on all of them, for the fact that every bird on your property has to have a state leg band put on it by the tester to show they have been checked. This way down the line if you get a random inspection, they check for the bands, if you have some without, they assue you have bought new birds, at this time, you will need to show your NPIP transfer forms to show the new stuff came from a NPIP place.
Sometimes the bands just fall off though, they understand that too, so now big worry if that happens, they know what you have when they get done testing, you have to give them a total head count and sex count on each anual test.

Sounds like a big head ache, but really it's not, It took about 7 hours to get everything here tested, some 300+ birds, yep mine did everything even over the 300 mark.
But once it's done, your done for a year with them, and you're legal.

as for MS state, you dont have to have them tested for anything just to own them, but yes according to my paper here, MS need either the NPIP VS Form 9-3 OR just a certificate showing a vet tested them for pullorum.

They are one of the more lenient states out there actually. No import permit needed either, just a copy of that NPIP form or certificate if they are shipped in to you.

I'm starting to get really impatient. Keeps saying that he's copied them off and is filling them out but keeps telling me that i really don't need them for the Silver BP's. and finally i had to tell him that i really did and that they really don't care if its silver mutation or not. I might just have to drive over there and take them from him if i ever plan on being legal. I mean i have been trying to get these ****** papers since before christmas.
