"I can't die this way," Kit cried, voice trembling.
You don't have to, you know. You should let me take over.
It was that voice again. "What are you?" Kit whispered, though she already had a good idea of what it was.
I'm the monster inside you. It hesitated as the door cracked. I... don't really want you to die. Normally, I wouldn't mind, but if you die, I die. So you'd better let me take over.
"Wha--what do you mean?" Kit whimpered. "I'm not going to let you take over my body, if that's what you mean."
I... Jeez, kid, just let me take over. If you do, I'll let you keep your mind. Only for a little bit.
"No way." She gritted her teeth. "How do I not know if you're lying?"
You have the will power, Katherine. Kit froze at the mention of her full name. I know you. You can hold me back.
Kit stood there, speechless. "I--Okay..."
The door cracked, then splintered, and a slimy monstered that resembled an octopus with teeth as long as a mans finger slithered across the floor towards them.
And Kit let go. Just a small amount, becoming one with the monster in her brain. Her body became larger and more beefy, her cardigan ripping off and her glasses swinging off her eyes and hanging onto her ear. She still had a small bit of control over her body, but she knew her monster was changing her body.
BRING IT ON, YOU EIGHT LEGGED SNAILHEAD. The monster screamed through her mouth.
