@Canadian WindTwo hatched so far under my Broody muscovy. I did have to help them out. Lost 2 others internal pip but didn't make it through the shell. Waiting on a couple more.

Did I end up with Chocolates?
Why are you trying to help eggs under a broody? Just curious, I've found that the moms did fine by themselves. In fact, they hatched out 25 on their own.Two hatched so far under my Broody muscovy. Its her first clutch and she is sharing a nest with a Silkie. I candled the eggs a few days before to check time frame and pull any duds. Saw a few internal pips so put them all back and left her for a day. Checked the next day the chicks never pipped through the shell, by evening they were cold and DIS. So I made air holes for the two still going and hoped the Broody would handle it. She didn't.Why are you trying to help eggs under a broody? Any eggs left over I put in the incubator. Most don't hatch. I figure there was something wrong with them and better they don't hatch than the heartbreak of losing them after.
Ducks don't hatch the same way chickens do, though. It's not unheard of to have up to 72 hours after external pip before finally hatching. NOT criticizing you. I was just curious. If the babies were DIS and the eggs cold, then Mom must have kicked them out; they probably wouldn't have survived even with help. Its her first clutch and she is sharing a nest with a Silkie. I didn't realize that it could take that long from external pip. Wow. But my problem for the last incubator hatch and this one with the broody is that the chicks Don't externally pip. I know incubator hatches are poor in ducks, but I had 6 viable at hatch time. 4 internal pips, I left them be. Never externally pipped. With the remaining 2, I made an air hole and while I had to help 1 out of its shell the other made it out on its own. 2 out of 20. Wondering if it's a problem with this line.Ducks don't hatch the same way chickens do, though. It's not unheard of to have up to 72 hours after external pip before finally hatching. Silkies will sit on anything anywhere, won't they!![]()
