The Moonshiner's Leghorn Thread Peanut Gallery

American Leghorns should have a lopped comb. Not a huge one, but lopped nonetheless, and bigger than some breeds. Here is a hen that keeps winning champion LF at shows, can’t remember the breeders. Sometimes the bantams don’t have as developed of combs because the dwarf size doesn’t always lend to it.View attachment 2479828
Yes, but if I wanted an english size comb AND a proper tail, would I have to introduce any english or could I just breed for large combs?

The rabbit hole of genetic possibilities and enlightenment in the Leghorn game I believe is going to be at the Moonshiner's thread.
@Overo Mare. Correct?
This is just people spitballing.Am I correct?
Genetics can be discussed here. Moomy gets to decide what makes his breeding thread.

You would just breed for larger combs. They exist but wouldn’t win you champion row. We don’t like the vision to be interfered with.

I found a hatchery that has standards for buttercups. Decent quality too. A gal in 4H had a trio last summer from them.

Never knew they had bantam version either

Well here she is... a genuine Buttercup bantam, and very much alive, but WHAT is going on with her comb??? It’s not frostbit, but there is a big swollen growth?
