But recessive white on like a duckwing bird could cover black and leave the reds and golds?
I know you didn't ask me but this is my experience after eight years of working with it. There is a recessive white that seemingly has "appeared" in some breed varieties. It hides all but red/gold colors and it's not dominant white. It needs a double gene to express just like normal recessive white. I don't know if this starts to answer the question.

Okay, thanks. I'm trying to figure out what my pheonix male is colorwise. He looks like a white with red mottling or a red bird with dominant white, but I don't have dominant white in the flock, just possibly recessive white

Could you show a picture? I forgot to mention that the males in this sandy gene don't typically show red/gold except for a slight creamy color on the hackle, shoulder and saddle. Picture of a two year old male and a couple more of the same hen.

Here he is.

Here's his dad.

His mom is either the white female with some black and brown head feathers, or some shade variation of gold duckwing (I had a hazel, roan, strawberry or regular when he was hatched)

He also had 2 sisters that seemed almost barred with his white color and a gold color instead of the red he has. I'll try to find them later in the gallery

Also should add, those two hens in the bucket are also his half sisters. They're all from the same father, but different clutches and in the white ones case possibly, different generations
