The Moonshiner's Leghorns

All the silver Ameraucana I hatched I'm selling. If there is wheaten in there I can't add to my program. Also I just culled my 3rd cross beak. Most are behind on growth as well. I'll just have to order some more from GypsyHen this time.🫤
I’m sorry.. I hate set backs like that. You could always breed them and record their hatch down colors and sell off any wheatens or splits and only keep the ones that hatch pure for duckwing. You just have to keep good band records.

Wing banded my 6 Buff Leghorns and the 4 Browns from Don Schrider. I think the pink looks good on them. 🄰

I may do that with what ever survives. They are also having failure to thrive issues. I'm treating for it but I might be losing two more. šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø

Last year it was nearly all boys that hatched out of a dozen and a half. Now I have other issues. The Spitzhauben rooster for the crested EE project is not mating the hens. Sigh.

Good news is the whites and chocolates are doing well. The six crested EE are doing fabulous and only two are ccockerels. I'll be keeping the one with silver leakage.

So I got golden duckwing Phoenix from Cackle that breed true and when I posted the color difference between silver duckwing Phoenix and golden duckwing Phoenix the conclusion was the cream gene. You can tell the silvers and Golds apart as chicks because of it.
That is interesting to find out that the "Golden" Duckwings a lot of people refer to are not gold/silver, but are actually gold with the cream gene to make them look golden. That makes more sense seeing that hens cannot be silver/gold split.

Ya I wouldn't be too worried about the wheaten genes but cross beaks and failure to thrive would worry me a lot.

I had an EE rooster that was golden blue duckwing. Had him tested for the blue egg gene and he was O/o. Had great plans and a coon ate those plans and sent me in to chicken depression.
Well you were missed during your chicken depression! I was getting ready to ask where you were. I am so sorry the coon ate your rooster. Stupid coons. Such is my life also. Everytime I make a plan, life throws me a curveball, especially chicken plans. That is why I like having so many projects, so if one fails (or more) then maybe I at least have one that might work out.
