The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Thoughts, anyone?

Okay I have that Trailblazer. Was on a gravel road the other day dodged some potholes but hit some washboards. It developed a rattle somewhere underneath after that.
It only rattles when the vehicle is moving and of course that makes it hard to locate when I'm in the vehicle making it move. I'm thinking jack up the rear end put jack stands under the rear axle so the back tires are off the ground. You see where this is going?
Get in start it give it a little gas and set cruise control. Then hop out and try to find the rattle while the back wheels are spinning in the air.
Brilliant or I've lost my mind thinking it'll work?
Brilliant!

Can I wing band adults? And what do I need to get that started?
You can, but you will have to use a small sharp tipped knife to cut a slit in the wing web to put the band through. As chicks, the wing web is tender and thin so the sharp tip of the wing band pierces through easily. On adults, the skin is thicker and tougher so you have to create the hole with a knife tip. But yes, you certainly can. I have waited too long before to wingband a group of birds and they were like 4-6 months old. The wing band would bend and not pierce the wing web of the older birds, so my husband helped me pierce a small hole in the wing web with a sharp knife and I put the wingband through and applied it no problem after that.

It may be easier to use the permanent metal leg bands on adults. They clamp on the leg with the same pliars as the zip wing bands, and are not easily shaken and lost like the ones you apply that are just a rolled up piece of plastic that you open up and then it closes up on the leg, if that makes sense. They are made of aluminum I think. I will attach the links to those products. Pinnion Hatch Gamefarm is the merchant I have ordered from on Amazon and Ebay for years.

I have the red set of pliers and the black ones too. I think both pliers will work to apply both the wing bands and leg bands. I will go look.

Yes they use the same set of pliers to apply, the leg bands and the zip wing bands. So only buy one set of pliers, you dont need both. The leg bands have different sizes to fit different sized legs. The leg bands would be too big for bantams. But the wing bands work on bantams and large fowl.

I worked up a deal for some EE and OE hatching eggs today. I’m working away from home again and this lady is real close to where my weekday camper home is parked. I’ll drop by Friday on my way home so there won’t be any rough shipping issues. She has the fancy French Copper Whatchamacallits too but very expensive. I may spring for those down the road a ways.

Thank you for the information. I did color zip ties for now but I thinking of useing these now.
Colored zip ties are great as a temporary measure for identification of chicks and keeping breeds from getting mixed up as you get them out of the incubators. But long-term you want a band with an identification number so you can record info like when the bird was born, its breed, who its parents were, details like hatch down color, etc. I made up a blank wing band form I could send you to print out for documenting wing bands. I keep everything in a binder so all we have to do is look at a bird's wing band number and then find its record in the book.
