Toe punching is also another great method of identifying breeds. My husband toe punches all of his games as chicks so he knows which breed/line they are. Then we wing bands individual birds as a way to keep up with specifics like lineage, parents, DOB, etc.

I worked up a deal for some EE and OE hatching eggs today. I’m working away from home again and this lady is real close to where my weekday camper home is parked. I’ll drop by Friday on my way home so there won’t be any rough shipping issues. She has the fancy French Copper Whatchamacallits too but very expensive. I may spring for those down the road a ways.
Black Copper Marans. lol Congrats on scoring some EE and OE eggs. You could get some Black Copper Marans from her to cross to the EE and OE to darken the color of the green eggs. I like my OE hens, they lay a really pretty egg. They are a cross between Marans and Legbar.

That’s cool. I see why you were drawn to this thread. You’re like the lady version of Moony.

Ew
It is too early but I have a poultry swap to help run this morning
Thoughts for future d'Anvers varieties:
Currently I have
Quail and blue quail
Cuckoo project
My favorites that I'd like to get some day as well are
Silver Quail
Golden Neck
What are your favorite d'Anvers varieties?
Few breeds have as many color varieties as them

Are the hens trying to molt already? If all goes well with mine maybe we can do an egg swap next year. To keep our lines fresh. :)
Could just be from moving them to a different pen and throwing a rooster with them.
 either adjusting or doing it out of spite cause those are the eggs I need the most ATM.

Colored zip ties are great as a temporary measure for identification of chicks and keeping breeds from getting mixed up as you get them out of the incubators. But long-term you want a band with an identification number so you can record info like when the bird was born, its breed, who its parents were, details like hatch down color, etc. I made up a blank wing band form I could send you to print out for documenting wing bands. I keep everything in a binder so all we have to do is look at a bird's wing band number and then find its record in the book.
Yes, please. That would be very helpful. I'm going to put more work in to 8x8 pens so I can do quads instead of the 8 to 10 hens to one rooster.

Oops just noticed the post with the PDFs.

Our local chick days have died down but our fish days was hopping yesterday.
I left while they were still setting up but there was already probably 25 or 30 people lined up along the front of the building waiting.
