The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Ya I've raised legbars before. Done some stuff with the leghorns before too. Once upon a time I had a lavender crele project going.
I guess I mentioned the no headspot because my son wasn't happy about that. He's getting more involved now days.
He's starting to understand the whole projects aspect a lot more. He's come a long ways since the helicopter incident...

I had a similar experience with my oldest nephew when he was small. He was holding one of my husband's gamefowl chicks from his best line and squeezed it too hard. I nearly perished watching it happen. The chick was gasping and taking its last breaths but I assured the child the chick was just fine and hurried him out of the house so he didn't see it die. In the end it was just a chick and he was just a child, and I didn't want him to feel bad for accidentally killing it.

That's a rough one. My kid has been around chicks his whole life so it's always been step by step learning. At the time my fear was just him dropping it mostly.
I think the hardest thing he's had to learn was not doing something to panic them and make them pile in a corner. Especially when days old and they're in my room.

Same with my kid, but my nephews weren't around them as much. My son has always been gentle with chicks and loves animals like me. We have brooded newborn chicks in the house since long before he was born so he has handled them since he was small. I caught him in the bathroom once when he was a toddler holding a flashlight up to an egg (fresh egg from the egg bucket) to candle it. I usually take eggs from the incubator to the bathroom to candle in the dark. Kids are like sponges and they watch us and learn. It was so sweet. lol He's a great kid. He looks like his dad with my eyes, and he's my greatest accomplishment.

Ya I have to watch what mine is watching because I may not be the best influence. He's already too much like me, just born that way.
So if you know horses you know they can do the weirdest cr@p to get injuries.
Sunday the boy spent a few hours at work with me. When I came in I found a tail laying on top of one of the fans. I didn't pay much attention to it besides it was half dirty and covered with wood chips.
Show horses like these often have fake tails they tie into their real tails for shows. They're $200 or more. All I thought was who's tail is that and why were they wearing it here. Thinking it fell out and got kicked around the stall.
Little bit after the boy shows up 2 of the teen girls that work here stopped by. One mentioned the tail and I asked who's it was. She named off a horse we have that has a weanling colt which just happened to be separated and in the next stall for the first time.
Then she goes into the story as the boy and I listen. The tail is about 1/2 of the mothers real tail that they said the colt chewed off of her.
I'm thinking the story is crazy as she shows the dried end with meat etc attached. We talk a few about why he would of done that? How long it would of took and why she wouldn't have kicked the cr@p out of him before it got that far.
The kid is just quietly listening till he gets a chance to speak. He looks the one girl straight in the eyes and matter of facts asked.... and you all haven't euthanized that colt yet?
Both of them about lost it. The one looked at me and I did the . She looked back at the boy and said geez no, why would we do that? Boy says... why would you keep a cannibal horse? She said he's not a cannibal. Boy says... when you eat your own kind that is the literal definition of a cannibal. She did not know what to say as the other girl said... he speaks facts.
That is my child.

Last pic bottom left chick is a lot whiter than the others

I've never had one with that much white. It's interesting for sure. They change when they reach closer to maturity. Curiosity how it will end up.
Should be reasonably easy to follow how it turns out. It wasn't any different looking than the others when it first hatched
