The Moonshiner's Leghorns

We had a hot summer and very mild weather going into fall. I'm not gonna be happy if winter is stupid cold again.
Per the pattern we are seeing they say its going to be a stupid cold winter this year.

Had to buy producers pride feed for the chickens today to tide me over till payday. Am I the only one who buys the $23 to $27 dollar a bag feed? I feel bad for getting the producers pride because its only 16% protein and I normally feed 18% to 20% protein feeds. The producers pride stuff was $15.99 a 50lb bag. Cheapest I can get at TSC, I could go cheaper at Walmart for $13 for a 40lb bag.
I'm poor with a lot of mouths to feed so....
Ya I've always fed 16% layer. I just tell them, hey I'm not making you live off scratch grains or cracked corn be happy.

I should follow that line of thinking. It would make my chicken keeping cheaper.
I have a neighbor that's not too bright. He'll go to auction and buy 40 or 50 birds. Throw them loose on his property and despite gimmick deterrents like those little red lights etc he'll slowly but surely lose them all to predators.
Couple years ago he said he might stop having them and was complaining they hardly layed anyways. I figured they were just hiding their nests until I found out he feeds them nothing but cracked corn and table scraps.
They live eating it. At least through summer which is about when they're all gone but not surprised they don't lay much.

I've gotten 3 incubators off there :lau.
I love marketplace and use it all the time.
Problem is besides the obvious that you have to people is I'm pretty far out from most things so it's more then a hop, skip and jump for me to go get most things.
The other trouble is people will say they are coming by to get something and then don't. Or do and try to renegotiate price on the spot.
