The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Ya I had the one a few weeks, I don't remember but in that time he started to get matted and picked up every bur on the property.
I had no doodle experience and while combating the burs I discovered just how much maintenance he was gonna be. I didn't have anything to trim him with I thought it was best to go the professional route at least that time. Yeah they wanted $100 and told me how often he would need to be groomed in the future.
I wasn't too happy about it and explain to the groomer how he was dumped by my house. She asked if I was looking for a home for him and at about that time I surely was. Well I didn't have to pay for grooming that day and he got to go home and live with the groomer.
Well if you would have lived closer I would have groomed him for you. I clip ours every 3 months or so, and he gets a bath and brushed about once every week or two weeks depending on how dirty he is. They are very high maintenance dogs, and if I didn't already have a good set of clippers to do him myself we would not have got a Doodle. I can't afford expensive groomer bills. I have always clipped and groomed our Pyrenees for years because no groomer will agree to clip them around here. I guess biting risk with them being a giant breed? I don't blame you for re-homing the Doodle. $100 every few months is way too much money.

You can't legally kill a mans dog for killing his own chickens.(These dogs and chickens weren't my brothers)Eventually the mans dogs killed all of his chickens. When he moved he gave the dogs away
Edit: Sorry I thought it was the neighbor's dog trying to kill the brother's chickens.

If it was the neighbor's dog trying to kill the brother's chickens, then yes you can, at least in Kentucky you can, shoot a dog for coming onto your property and killing your animals. My dog was shot just down the road about 10 years ago, lawfully. One of our Pyrenees got out and played with a goat until it died. The man shot my dog on his property. There was nothing I could do about it, as it is the law. The dog was about 9 years old, and I was there when he was born. I helped his mother as she delivered the litter, and we had him ever since. The law is the law.

Its the law here in Texas as well.

It is the law in many states. We try very hard not to shoot peoples' dogs, and we always warn them, and usually that is enough for them to keep their dogs home. I didn't get a warning, or the opportunity to reconcile to pay damages with my dog. The man down the road gut shot my Pyrenees and left him for dead. My husband had to climb the fence to go get our dog and bring him home and put him down as he was bleeding to death and suffering. The man wouldn't even come out of the house to talk to us. I would never do that to someone. We always give a warning first and give someone the opportunity to keep their dog home. I am not without empathy. I know how that feels.

That's rough. 😕

I will always give the people a chance to do the right thing. My neighbors dog killed several of my chickens because of fence issues after Beryl (hurricane) after the second incident they got the fence fully done and had a way to secure their dog if the fence got broken again.

When are we going to get back to talking about Leghorns?
I think we are waiting for some more pics from Moony....

That is the decent thing to do. In the grand scheme of things, losing a few chickens isn't going to break us. And we don't take causing bad blood between neighbors lightly. I would rather lose a few chickens and warn them first before I will cause bad blood. We get along great with all of our neighbors, but we have never spoken to the man down the road who shot our dog. I forgive him, as that is what we are supposed to do. Beyond that, if I never have to look at him again that is good with me.
