The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Got it. Obviously you have different sources than the average buyer. :)
Actually I do not.
I may have sourced harder then others but any type I've bought anyone else can buy if they look hard enough.
Any I've created anyone else can create if they have the right varieties.
That's a big point I want to make. Anyone can do the same as I have with leghorns or for that matter most other breeds.
You just need some genetic knowledge and an imagination.
I did get a kick out of ChicKat calling me a "visionary" the other day.
That has a nice ring to it.

Any birchen based Leghorns?
As far as I know there are no Birchen based leghorns so ....
I have hatched some Birchen looking chicks. I only kept a few pullets so don't know how the males turned out. I'm planning on working with them in the future but do not believe they're actual Birchen but rather some blacks that lost a gene or two from crosses that complete the black color.

It sure does. I was wondering that because not many breeds have the birchen E gene, but Ameraucanas have all of them. I don't do Ameraucanas anymore, really, but I'm into d'Anvers.
I don't think they have birchen or partridge, but most other colors can be created.
I'm more working towards exhibition than "gotta catch em' all" but the same principles exist, and I'm very interested in genetics and the overall variety of fowl, so I followed this thread. It's very cool.

No big deal. Was a long time ago. Basically got taken advantage of and lost most of my birds over it.
I've been thinking about it but won't be next year.
Need to gear things in that direction if decide to. I'm getting older and been thinking maybe get into making things less draining on my cash flow and have something to pass on to one of the kids if they are interested.
Put a lot of work into my birds and plans for a lot more things to come so would be weird to let it all fade away when I do.

Man, I can't wait until I have experience:old (and land) for all of this. As it is, I have one more year of high school, then probably 10 or so more years until I can be serious about this:hit. But I love genetics and love growing things. I'll probably start out just breed for the sop so that I can get a hang of it, but it would be cool to create a whole new variety! I also hope to do other animals. But chickens are easier to do and more diverse. I'm also proud to say that if it weren't for chickens, I might not have found my love for genetics and raising things. They were my "gateway drug" into becoming an addict to life and all of it's little mysteries. :bow:D
P.S. Love all of the posts, couldn't stop reading and read it all in like an hour. Learned a lot and hope to learn more!:wee:pop
