I've collected a few small buckets from work and was just brainstorming a use for them.
IDK they're like 2 gallon size maybe. Just don't know what size pvc to use and if they would even work as well as the large ones.
Having chicks and juveniles waste less food sounds great though.

I think when I made it I read it was like 3 inches for the adults but I got 4 because I thought they needed it but that was a bit too big and I couldn’t fit as many feeder holes in it. For the babies I would think 2 inch would work for them? Maybe even smaller like 1 if they’re really little.

Anyone seen any threads about anyone making mini versions of the no waste bucket feeders with the PVC elbows for chicks?

@The Moonshiner - @Faraday40 has some tiny chick feeders like that. She makes them so perhaps she can give some advice?

We make feeders and waterers from recycle bin items. My daughter made a bunch one year as a project. We have multiples so it's easy to grab one when setting up a quick brooder, temp tractor, hen hospital, etc. Chicks need to be about a week old before their necks are long enough to use these feeders. I like to hang them so the height can easily be adjusted. (Handles are cut and shaped from wire coat hangers.)

I've seen other people make big feeders with multiple PVC elbows and a storage tote or garbage can. They can dump a whole 50lb bag of feed into those feeders.

You still raising those Orps?
What size PVC did you use for the chick ones?

Yes. Lots & lots of big, lazy, cuddly Orps.

For adults about a 4". (90'elbow, one end male, other end female works great) I find someone who owns cats & request those nice square kitty litter containers. Most of my roosters don't have a problem with a 4" opening, but one with a large comb might rub. Could go up to 5" I guess.

Chicks/ small hen feeder 3". Those clear containers are from mixed nuts

Dear BYC
I never thought it would happen to me .....
I think one of my roosters has changed genders. As I was feeding in the barn I heard the peeping of a chick. Confusion set in because there shouldn't be any chicks in the barn and the peeping sounded like it was up high
Like over my head high. I chalked it up to it must be a barn swallow chick or something. Still curious I followed the peeps. I have a pen with a stretched tarp as the top. It kinda sounded like that's where it was coming from.
Grabbing a ladder I climbed up to investigate. To my surprise there was a little chipmunk striped chick, one hatched egg shell and 6 other eggs. All leghorn eggs. No mother in sight.
Now what's odd is I have no known loose hens in the barn or anywhere.
I do have muscovy hens but I don't believe one could of brooded there without stretching the tarp down. Muscovies are kind of heavy.
But besides that who the hell laid the eggs?
The only logical conclusion is that one of the roosters has changed genders. Layed eggs and then hatched the chick.
Being a one time male I'm not surprised he didn't stick around once the chick hatched.
Strange days we're living in.
