The coyotes here aren't too bad. Leave the coop open and we'll lose one, but they haven't broken through chickenwire walls in 10+ years eother, so.....

I guess I'll have to try that next...Guess that peeing on chickens really worked.
I've seen one running along the back fence line shortly after we moved in. I haven't seen one or tracks from one again. I'm not even sure if it was a Grey or Red fox it was moving so quickly and in the shade. I have seen a red that was hit in the road a couple of miles from the house. We get foxes every now and again.
Lucky you. I saw the bobcat on the same fenceline I saw the fox but hadn't seen another one until recently. This one also killed all of my Bourbon Reds save two which I sold so they wouldn't get killed. She's taken a duck. When she got the last turkey hen she also killed all the juvenile White Orpingtons I'd been growing out. On the 3rd with fireworks blowing up all around us she snatched a full grown White hen and killed another pullet. And I found a Splash Orpington hen dead next door so I'm blaming her for that too. I keep waiting for the River Otters to figure out there's tasty chickens not to far from their haunt.Bobcat hey? Haven't dealt with one of those yet.
They're around here but few and far between.
I hear them but I've only seen one. And she was eating the dead rat snakes I'd killed and tossed into the pasture. It was in broad daylight too. She skulked around but ate her snakes very nervously and then vanished. She didn't pay much mind to the chickens and they just watched her like she was one of the poodles. We used to have huge coyote problems. They'd come right up in the yard in the daytime.
Poor dummies.Oh, and now something is chewing the toes of chicks up on the wire. I've got traps set but haven't caught anything. I'm betting a raccoon because they can't get their little creepy hands through the wire so they just bite toes.
I know! They have perches but they just pile up on the floor to sleep.Poor dummies.
That is one of my fearsI know! They have perches but they just pile up on the floor to sleep.
I'll bet the leghorns start perching a lot earlier. I find Orps are a bit like Cochins and I have to coax/teach them. That is one of my fears
The Red Leghorns that I have are bunching up on the floor, they haven't perched yet. It just so happens I just transfer them out to a halfway house that we call it which is a parrot cage that has 1/2 in by 3in mesh. I've got five perches in there and they don't want to use them. The Easter Eggers that I got for my wife are ina different cage and are perching with no problem all on their own.I'll bet the leghorns start perching a lot earlier. I find Orps are a bit like Cochins and I have to coax/teach them.
