The Moonshiner's Leghorns

They are beautiful birds! I love the deep red on them. If my husband wouldn't send me away to some kind of home for crazy people to live if I brought in more chickens, I would get a few Buckeyes. (I only kid, my husband adores me. That's how come I have so many chickens! :D;))

What are the little duckwing pullets in there?
Welsummer bantams

Oh wow, I didn't know your Welsummers were bantams! You may have told me but my mind can't be trusted lately. I bet they are cute little things. Do you show them also? How is their egg color?
Oh, they're my brother's.
Their egg color is getting better. It's a medium shade of brown with some speckles, which is darker than any other bantams but not nearly as dark as a Welsummers is supposed to be.

They are rather long... XD
He shows them, but they're still a bit too big. But they're getting there...
We all have to start somewhere, and usually with imperfect birds. But it is satisfying to watch a line transform generation after generation, through selective breeding, and see it improve. Hopefully, I can do something with the Red Leghorn line, and create my own line of them that aren't eye sores. I will appreciate your feedback and guidance to fill in the gaps in my chicken genetics and Leghorn SOP knowledge along the way as I work with them and learn. :)

So what do you have as far as leghorns right now?
Two hatchery brown hens, about 6 hatchery white hens, the Red Leghorn rooster, and my Red x Brown chicks I have to grow out and cull through. I am not holding my breath on very many of the 4 developing BL eggs to hatch. It would be a miracle for all 4 to hatch. Then I have the 9 Buff eggs going in to lockdown tomorrow.

The birds or the eggs?
Hopefully the birds because if you mean the eggs then you know those are all gonna hatch cockerels.
The eggs
And that can't be true because I've got just as many pullets as cockerels XD
They just aren't very aesthetically shaped eggs, very large for bantam eggs.
But the hatch rate is decent enough.
