The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Sorry, I just saw this. No, I don’t have them anymore for now. my divorce was just finalized and part of the agreement was to sell the property and distribute the proceeds. I will be obtaining another property down the road in the near future. And I will definitely get back on the leghorn train. Hopefully by that time, Moony can start shipping eggs🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
Your lips to God’s ears! lol

I am so sorry to hear about your divorce. I’m sure that has been very difficult for you. Not only losing your marriage but also your birds. I can’t even imagine how devastating all of that would be. 😢

If my Leghorns do well and I am not cursed with constant bad luck with them, maybe I can also help out and send you some eggs too in the future. Breeders should certainly work together and network for the betterment and preservation of the breed and varieties. My friend and I swap turkeys to keep our lines fresh the same way. We wouldn’t want Leghorns to fade out because of all the flashy new breeds that get all the hype.

I had read a comment somewhere that Silver Leghorns will never make it to Champion row in show, and for some reason that made me so sad. Because a Silver Duckwing done right is truly a sight to behold. I may never perfect them, but I really would like to try.

Gonna be another warm one here today.
86° and 60% humidity by noon.
Got this week's eggs in lockdown this morning and about 97.2% of the feeding and watering done.
Moved the 2 blue GD pullets in with the crele project and now one has some head balding and one bloody spot. Damn it. Moved her to isolation until she's better. Now I'll have to watch the other and the pen to see if it's the rooster or the crele pullet that's causing trouble. If it's the pullet I can pen them next door and rotate the boy back and forth or I've got a blue GD cockerel I can use. He's still young so unsure how well he's gonna turn out.

Gotta redo and rethink getting power to the chick house. First things first I need to get an accurate measurement on how far it is. I was gonna see about running actual wire to it but depending on price comparison I might go with a heavy extension cord.
If I get out of the chicken business or during non hatching season I could find another use for a good long extension cord.
Break time first though.

My money is on the other pullet doing it if they aren’t used to each other. Hens can be brutal to one another. I hate when they do that. Was the one with the injury staying up on the roost? If so that is a sure sign she is being bullied by another female. If there were several females in there, the rooster shouldn’t be focusing his energy on that one pullet.

We use a heavy outdoor extension cord and it has worked well enough for now. In the future I do want electricity installed in our building.

As it was it went from a pair to a quad. When it was a pair the pullet wasn't showing any signs of being overbred.
It's a 2 year old rooster and the 3 pullets were hatched late last season and always lived together until I pulled the crele to set up that breeding pair.
Yes she was going from roost to nest box. I suspect the pullet just because well she's a female, 🤣
I also expect her to now harass the other pullet but I'm hoping not to have to move her until the others wound scabs over at least. Don't want to be separating everyone.

Well I'm 140' to the garage. Best to go as short as you can with wiring and 150' is more plentiful then 200' for sure. Thing is is my breaker box is next door in laundry room.
Decisions..... I want to run a dedicated circuit with one outlet just for this.
200' cord and outlet in laundry room close to breaker box. That would probably be 25' more than I need and 50' more cord to drop the load it can handle.
Or 150' cord and run wiring from breaker box to somewhere in the garage that I can reach with cord.
I have no idea which would be better. Longer cord to outlet closer to box or shorter cord with outlet wired further from box.

Just Bluetooth it.

Yeah if I had to try to do all that myself I would either electrocute myself or burn something down. I would love to have electricity ran from the pole to the building. We would probably have to have a pole set by the building first. But doing all of the would be a big expense.

Yes hens can be rough on each other. We have Game hens that can literally never be penned with another hen because they will fight and kill each other. Single mate for life kinda hens. 😬
