The Moonshiner's Leghorns

I’m afraid they are off the menu. My nephews will miss them when they come to visit if they aren’t here. Do Silkies do well free ranging? I have minimal experience with them, and my experience was years ago when I was in high school.
I free ranged mine but put them up at night. No problems.

Are Silkies real chickens though? I saw some YouTuber calling hers cats…and putting little overalls on them…and giving them a bath in the sink. So I’m suspicious
I'm suspicious of a YouTuber calling a chicken a cat and bathing them in the sink. 😖😆

Silkies being real chickens is subjective I guess. Like, are Chihuahuas real dogs? Or just trembling blood thirsty gremlins? A Silkie is like a chicken and a feather duster's love child.

Oh its not just black skin. Its black bones and muscle as well.
Ya I thought it was interesting when the Ayam Cemani blew up and everyone was paying crazy $$$ for the all black chicken.
Black Silkies had had that niche for like forever.

Silkies, Silkies, ya not a fan. And now with the "satin" silkies even more not a fan. Another one of those best for women and children breeds.
I've had them and found they were almost too dumb for free ranging. Never were tight or fit in with the rest of the flock. Found the most interesting ways to try to kill themselves or injure themselves.
I wouldn't say they had it much worse then others dealing with predators and I never trimmed mine and they didn't go running around into walls or nothing but they just never seemed to bright.
I remember times when it would rain, like thunderstorm and they'd be standing out in it soaked and I'd have to go around rounding them up and putting them under shelter.

Eggs ordered, but they aren't being shipped till Monday. Ordered 2 doz, a mix of Cuckoo, Blue and Exchequer.
I'm thinking about picking up some chicks Friday.
Gotta decide if I really want to and if so decide how many.
