The Moonshiner's Leghorns

White Leghorn and Ameraucana are what was used to produced the Super Blue Egg Layers. Those are pea combed and I have had some of those, and Legbar/ White Leghorn crosses, all of which lay tons of large pale blue eggs. They are an excellent cross for a layer.

Easter Egger in my book is a nice way of saying mutt
I love mutts, the muttier the better. My mutt free-ranged cross breeds fill up our egg buckets like crazy. And they have pretty much created their own line of Landrace chicken all on their own. They are tough little things, free range like a boss, roost way up in the tops of our trees, hardy in the winter and summer, go broody and raise chicks well, illness resistant and robust. What better could you ask for? Pure breeds are good too and I have many, but my mutt layers are queens in their own right.

I dont mind mutts either... but they are just that... a mutt. Don't try and tell me they are a perfect pure breed.

Have I ever told you I dont really like Easter eggers?

Easter Eggers are not included in any standard of perfection and have too much variability to ever be considered a pure breed. My crested naked necked EEs will purely be for our own use as layers. To each their own whether you like them or not. I raise chickens simply for my own joy. I don't like dealing with people around here enough to try to advertise and sell. If they make me happy, that should be enough to justify having them. 🫶

I will add that every single breed of chicken except for the wild type jungle fowl started out as a mutt (cross breed) at some point in its ancestry. They did not evolve on their own without human intervention to become Bantam Cochins for example, that took cross breeding and generations of selective mating to achieve.

Totally understand but others dont understand your first sentence.

Yes and you should see the mutts being sold in my area are pure this or that. In abominable conditions, tiny filthy pens, fed on only scratch or whole corn because "that's how granny did it." There are a lot of ignorant people out there, and I mean no disrespect in that statement. Ignorant simply means lack of knowledge, information, or awareness. Some people just don't know any better.

This is where I stand in the minority I'm sure. I love the look of a dubbed bird. We dub our games. We have even dubbed some Legbars and other random layer roosters over the years due to frost bite. They look cool as heck dubbed and it is actually a health benefit to the bird.
Can you post a pic of a dubbed bird please?

I love my EEs, have had them for 15 years. They are easy keepers and all that. I am finally moving away from them toward pb Ams though. Reason being, all those years, I thought, if I am going to lose a chicken to a dog or raccoon, I want it to be a $3 bird, not a $30 one. I don't have losses any more, or haven't in a long time, so thought I would risk some high-dollar birds that breed true.

I 100% agree on this too

Just tell me to...
