The Moonshiner's Leghorns

My work used to give us turkey or ham vouchers for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Now they give us a $20 Kroger gift card at Thanksgiving and a $25 one for Christmas. We are planning to do turkey and dumplings and a ham for Christmas. I have one or two more toms to butcher, but I hate scalding and plucking. I usually only do that once per year for Thanksgiving. Our turkey will stay in a cooler full of ice water and kosher salt brine until time to cook it next week.
My work doesn't usually give anything for certain. It's a weird deal cause lots changed in the last probably 3 years. I've been there so long that I'm kind of like grandfathered in to the old ways and everyone else is the new Era.
I get paid a different way and on a different day of the week. I get paid weekly everyone else is every 2 weeks. I've always got a Christmas bonus and still do but no one else does. I always get the option of not working Christmas if it falls on one of my work days. It's the only holiday I get off but everyone else gets no holidays off.
The turkey was just another oddball perk I sometimes get. I think somehow they ended up with two that's why he gave me one. Sometimes I get random stuff for no apparent reason.

Deep fried turkey tastes better then roasted anyday.
I think so too and doesn't take near as long to cook. I've done the redneck way before but last year I got one of the fancy countertop turkey deep fryers. It's so d@mn cool.

Maybe he did it because you are a valued employee.

Lol, maybe but he'd never say it outloud.
It's funny cause he's just not that type. Never bothered me but all the others whine cause they get no praise or told how appropriated they are.
Do people need that?

I guess that some do.

Maybe it's a guy thing. Instead of telling me I'm a good employee he just gives me a turkey. And honestly I appreciate the turkey more than hearing I'm a good employee.
I should probably feel bad for the others. No praise or a turkey.

Maybe if they worked harder and complained less, they would get one too?

That sounds pretty good to me! I love anything free.

I like deep fried turkey, but since we only do one a year, I season with lots of butter and seasoning and roast it in a turkey bag in the oven. The bag cuts way down on cooking time.

If we cooked more turkeys a year or entertained a lot of people for Thanksgiving, I might consider investing in a turkey frier, but since that is a cause of a lot of fires and grease burns, I have always been afraid to cook one that way at home. I've never seen a countertop one. That's pretty nifty.

We usually only get feedback if we do something wrong. Like "don't do that" kinda thing. Usually after someone does something stupid and/or gets themselves fired, we get a pep-talk to not do what they did. We don't get much positive feedback. I like nightshift because we fly under the radar a lot. lol
