Perhaps those county ordinances can be changed. Some poultry keepers fly under the radar. I'm not advocating one way or the other re: that one. Every situation is different.

I'm wondering why the ordinance is even there. I can only see that either they're trying to reduce potential nuisances or to prevent people from raising their own eggs/meat. It rules out pretty much anyone on less than 2 acres. I'm not sure my husband wants to take a stand over chickens. I'll have to think on that one. I live in a subdivision. I'm sure someone will take umbrage. I'm still working out the costs on this endeavor, so I have time to consider the radar.

So sad... Do they allow dogs in your sub division? You could argue that chickens are often quieter and less problematic than dogs. I've never heard of a chicken biting the mail man. If you wanted to try to change the county ordinance, I'm sure that if you did some publicizing, you'd find a lot of support. Just b/c there is currently a no-poultry law, that doesn't mean that it can't be changed.
