The Most Dangerous Coffee Shop- A Role Play

Kyle crossed his arms and gave them the concerned look that moms all over the world have mastered. “Oh yeah? You’re ‘fine’.” He chewed his lip and made air quotes that were the actual size of quotation marks. “You can’t even tell me what this bug was? Did it have rabies? If it had rabies, we need to get you to the hospital.”
~
Cam cupped her voice in her left hand and glanced meaningfully at Clary. “Durr, because the hospital’s right there, and bugs get rabies,” she said, pointing at a vacant place where a hospital very clearly was not.
Wolf? Wolf? Are you there? I need help, please...
No answer.
Blair looked down at Kyle. Despite her internal panic, she had a perfect lying face, and in her situation, she made her features blank, almost annoyed. Years of lying about why she was so sore and why she had some random scars that looked weirdly like dog teeth marks. Why she was always missing from school for a few days at a time randomly, why her eyes oddly flashed colors at certain times. She had mastered the lying face, and very few people could ever see through it, those who could being empath's or mind-readers. "Bugs can't get rabies, Kyle. And there isn't any hospitals, if you haven't noticed. And it wasn't a bug, I don't know what it was. I didn't even bother to try and see what it was, I was focused on getting away." She crossed her arms, hiding her hands. Beneath her nails, there was still blood caked underneath, and spots that hadn't washed off on her forearms.

Alanna rolled her eyes. "What's wrong with you? He's just concerned for your well being. Why don't you come off your high horse for a little bit and realize that people are just looking out for you."

Haddie sat down int he corner of the room, keeping an eye on all of the openings of the room, trying to keep her eyes open. She would have slept longer if she hadn't been violently tossed across the room earlier. She watched as Blair left to find the two young girls. She looked at Cam and Clary. They had it under control, right? She sighed and slumped against the wall as sleep overcame her.
Haddie cringed against the wall, sobbing, gasping for breath, eyes and nose dripping.
"No, mom, please!"
Crack. The sound of the cane hitting her outstretched arm echoed through the big house.
"We never should have taken a second look at that orphanage." the slim, put together woman at the other end of the cane, pristine and hard like everything about the household. "You've disappointed your father and I, and you're taking Maria down the same path." She crouched down, her face morphing to one of concern, her voice plaintive. "Hadassah, your father and I just want you to be the best that you can be, and with the choices you keep making," she shook her head, her face sad, her eyes cold, "that will never happen." She stood, gave Haddie a disappointed look, and started walking towards the stairs. She looked back over her shoulder at the shivering girl. "I don't want to hear any more about some stupid science school. You're going to law school, and you're going to find a
respectable husband." she spat. "And if I hear anything else about you shifting into some filthy animal," she turned back towards the stairs, her heels clicking. "I hope you're prepared for the consequences."
Haddie panted, her lachrymose demeanor shifting as she nursed her arm. She stood, wiping her tears, and walked towards her room, shuddering, gasping, sobbing. She shut the door, taking care to be gentle. She grabbed her backpack, dumped it, and started repacking it. Laptop, wallet, textbooks. She slung it over her shoulder and peeked out, breathing steadied, resolve in her eyes. She crept across the hall, pushed open Maria's door. She left a note, telling her to find her at their secret place. She started down the stairs.
"Haddassah?" Haddie stopped breathing for a moment, then sprinted down the rest of the stairs and out the door. "Haddassah? Haddassah, come back here! Haddassaaahh!" Haddie ran as fast as she could.

Haddie moved restlessly, trying to go faster, to escape. A tear escaped from behind her closed eyelid, and she shook with sobs. She jerked awake, panting and sweaty. She looked around, disoriented, quickly wiping her face with her shirt. The lovebirds were back, and Ellie. Where were the kids? Uhh... Fred, and... the bird boy. She stood up, breathing deeply to center herself. The humans were occupied in pointing fingers, so she shifted into a golden retriever and trotted over to Kit, favoring her left paw. Do you k ow what's going on? She asked, then sniffed. Something smelled weird, other than Blair's massive BO. It smelled-chemical, like ozone or new plastic. You smell that?

Kit yelped, startled when Haddie came up behind her. She sniffed at her hesitantly, then realized she smelled like one of the group members.
Smell? From dog. Big, huge dog. Attacked my humans. She answered. I don't understand what's going on. I can't understand the other humans, only Blair.
Then she smelled what Haddie was smelling, and curled her lip back, glancing around. That's not from the big dog, though. What is that?

Take went around the conversing Blair and Kyle, stepping further into the room and gazing around. His eyes narrowed, looking at every single person in the room, as if he was glaring and judging them intensely.
Wait, where’s Kipp and that one kid.. Freddie? No.. Fred.
“Anyone know where Kipp and Fred are?” He asked towards them, then glancing down at Kyle.

I dunno. Haddie put her nose in the air, sniffing for the source of the bad smell. Ellie? She sniffed towards the girl and looked up, cocking her head at the stranger.

Kit trotted after the shifter warily, tilting her head at Ellie. I don't think that's...Ellie. This doesn't smell like anyone from the group. She said in a small whine. She sniffed at her, ears flopping to the side as she studied her. Ellie didn't smell like any of the group members at all, not even a hint. Maybe...maybe we should, or you should, since you speak human tongue, but maybe you should alert the humans? Maybe they'll know if something's up?

Good idea. But is that thing isn't Ellie... Ok, so I'm going to go put, and a bird is going to fly back in. Can you keep Rylie busy? I don't trust him not to jump me.
Haddie trotted out of one of the doors nonchalantly and shifted onto a budgie. She flew back in, hovered in front of Cam for a second, making eye contact, and landed on her shoulder. "Ok, so we have a bit of an issue." Haddie whispered. "Kit and I smelled something wrong with Ellie-as in that's not Ellie's scent at all. Uh, so, I'm not well known for decision making skills, and you have a cool head, so... uh, yeah... any ideas?" Haddie glanced back at Kit, who was doing an excellent job acting natural and annoying the cat, and by default Kyle. She probably didn't need Rylie distracted. But is was fun to see the cat put out. She may or may not have held a grudge against the cat.

Distract the cat? Okay! Kit took this as 'play with the cat', and bounded away to Rylie and Kyle. She pawed at Rylie's tail experimentally, whining to get the cat's attention. She hopped up, trotting around the cat, trying to get him to play. C'mon, Rylie! Play with me! She dropped her front end down, her tail wagging in the air. She spared Bird-Haddie a quick glance to make sure she was alright, before training her gaze back on Rylie. Play!

Cam was cheered to recognize Haddie in one of the first forms she had ever seen, a dandelion colored budgie with bright blue eyes. “Hey Haddie.” Even though she knew Haddie was really human, it still felt special to have a bird land on her shoulder, especially with all the other available shoulders in the room.
“Ellie? What’s wrong with Ellie? She seems ok to me...” She squinted at Ellie, trying to see something that she hadn’t noticed before. “Do you have beef with Ellie?” she accused.

As that dog approached, Rylie’s fur rose and a growl began worming itself out of his throat.
‘Play? We have a relationship developed out of respect, are you threatening me?’
Rylie whipped around but the dog was everywhere. It was going to kill him. The hunter was being hunted.
Pick a direction, any direction.
Rylie dodged to the right and kept going that way until he ran headfirst into a wall. Ouch.
“Oh, you,” Kyle said, glowering at the dog. “Are you trying to hurt my cat, stupid beast?”
As soon as the dog looked at him, Kyle ran after Rylie, though he had enough wit about him not to run head first into smooth limestone. He hid behind the trembling cat’s long fur and peeked out, sure a slobbering angry beast would pursue him.
