Thanks Java girl, I never knew how to post pics. I will try to get a pic of my loaded inky later. I'm delivering a dozen eggs to my moms classroom (5 yr olds) to set today. Maybe I can get her to join the hatch too. I'll take a pic of her loaded incky just in case. For all of my fellow hatchers that are obsessing over temps and humidity, etc. Let me tell you about how my mom hatches, every year for 40+ years. Eggs are set, big giant pan of water under the wire, condensation on the glass for 100% of the incubation. One thermometer only and its as old as the incubator (40+ yrs). She hand turns (thankfully lets out some humidity). Lockdown is normal procedure, same giant pan of water. Chicks hatch. . . I look at my incky with 3 thermometers and one hygrometer (soon to add another) inside and one thermometer/hygrometer for the exterior and my notebook full of notes on temp/rh ranges. . .

. I try to tell her of the "new" theory of dry hatching and some of the nuggets of info that I've learned here and along the way and then bite my tongue. So relax everyone, chicks will hatch. That's what I say but, not what I do. I can't stop the worry.

Seems to me like when they are meant to Hatch they do even under some funky Circumstances .. I sort of smile how I hear so many different opinions talking about a MUST DO Way .. As It seems like lots of people are Hatching Chicks Lots of different ways : ) Thank you for Sharing !

Okay I'm so tempted... Other than having to stack eggs on top of each other...Will Some one Please Discourage me from Joining this hatch!!!!!!!

.......

None of us will. We want you here..I just wanted to tell you you Lavender Ameruacana's are so friendly. I have never had chicks at this age that weren't flighty, these kids are not at all, I love them.

I've never done one of these hatch-a-long things and don't really know how they work but....I just picked up some Royal Palm and Muscovy eggs last night and set them this morning so I'm wondering if its too late for me to join? Since these will take 28 days and people setting chicken eggs will only need 21 days, I'm not sure how the coordination works. Anyway, if its not too late to join, count me in!

i suspect the differences in humidity are related to a number of factors. Like My LG is made of closed styrofoam--no moisture leaks out except for the vent holes, the red cap holes andseam where top and bottom meet. I would think wood constuction draws out a great deal of moisture. And if there is a fan, that also has a drying effect. THen factor in local weather! LOL

I relay on the development of the aircell to decide if my humidity is fine or needs a bit more drying or to increase the humidity.

I bet your mom know just how this system of hers works after 40 years! Also, kudos to your mom for teaching!

LOL. I started reading from the beginning of this thread and saw where someone set turkey eggs 9 days ago so I guess we'll be a little behind the curve when Mother's Day gets here. Oh well.

Ok, I did set these Sunday but am just now getting around to posting the photo. I set a total of 60 eggs, chicken and guinea ~ all shipped eggs. They are split between two bators as I have several staggered hatches going on right now. This is just the 1st bator. Ignore the eggs off to the side off the turner, they're a different hatch. The other 15 "missing" eggs are in bator #2.
