OK It was warm enough (low forties) to let the birds out for a minute. They were so happy they went fluttering all about the yard with joy. I went in the house to get the camera, came back out and they were all back in the coop! Maybe not warm enough, hehehehe. Anyway, I was able so snap a few shots of the kiddos. They are 8 1/2 weeks today. Well, I think Godiva is 3 weeks and Delilah 4.
This is why they have been cooped up all week:

Up to 1 1/2" of solid ice froze over our water collection tubs and pond!!!
Delilah:

Delilah and Marjorie have a snuggle (Only good one of Marjie today):

Dante being a lil piggie, wouldn't stop eating for me to get a good pic:

This one is better, I love the black band across her beak:

Hubert didn't want to cooperate either, so only a couple head shots of her:

OK It's been awhile, I know. But here they are at 10 (etc.) weeks old. It had been really cold and then really rainy, then this past week it was unseasonably warm so I was able to get LOTS of pics! And we were able to plant some stuff in the gardens too! SO without further ado:

Alice (Production Red): She was being very photogenic, lol. Her and Nugget are the first to come running when I have treats!

Molly (EE): Still a beautiful, big girl, and one of the sweetest! I can't wait to see what egg color she lays!

100_3857.jpg

100_3860.jpg

Majorie (Black Minorca): Calming down as she gets older, she's not so hard to catch anymore, and she'll sit in my lap/arms for a looong time too.

Delilah (EE): Also getting calmer with age, she too is quick to come running for treats! Her nickname is "Dee".

Godiva (SLW): A bit nervous, but calming down. She'll sit on my lap and seems to love being petted. She's also a bit aloof, and will wander quite a bit from the other birds. She's probably the least photogenic! We call her "Gee" as a nickname.

Nugget! (Mille Fleur d'Uccle): He, Dante and Hubert are moving to the country tomorrow. I will miss them but they will be at our friend's house, so we will be able to visit them often, and get more photos as they continue to grow!
nugget is an absolute sweetie pie! He is the first to come running when I have treats, and will shadow me around the yard begging for more! He talks to me too, I will miss him sooo much!!!!

He's started getting a good beard and muffs, and saddle feathers.

This next photo is just really weird, but shows him struttin' his stuff. The burds were eating scratch, oh, and the dogs were too (more pics of that later!)
100_3894.jpg

And then he sorta popped his lil' head in front of what would've been a super cute pic of Hubert (IF I had it centered right) LOL, like "What's That!?!?!"
100_3876.jpg

The only good pic of Dante (Blue Cochin Bantam) I got: She's amazingly sweet, doesn't run from anyone, lets us pick her up without any problem, and loves to cuddle and be petted. I will miss her too!!!!
100_3843.jpg

Here's little Hubert Cumberdale (Bantam EE). She is still a little spaz, but much better, when I can catch her, she's very calm and quite a sweetie. I love her little beard and muffs, and her dove coloring is soooo pretty. I will miss this lil lady too!

And her are some pics of the whole flock being happy free-rangers with the "chicken dogs" eating scratch!

Yep, the pug, Frodo, and his son (who's half corgi), Thackery do like the birds. Well, Frodo mostly ignores them, lol. But Thackery will occasionally try to play with them hopping around and circling them like the silly boy he is. It usually freaks the birds out when he does this, but he's only done it 3 or 4 times, once almost herding them into the coop! The birds have a mutual affinity towards the dogs that Frodo does, they pretty much ignore them. Except for Delilah, she likes to hang around Thackery.

I keep the dogs out with the flock when they are wandering the yard, mainly for bird-of-prey protection. We've seen great horned owls, sharp-shinned and redtail hawks and harriers in and around our yard. In fact, a hawk went chasing a male cardinal through our big elm in the back (with us on the deck-it was crazy!!!). Then just last week a harrier of some sort shot after a sparrow, missed, landed on the fence, realized it was 10 feet from me and took off again! Close call for the songbirds! Luckily both times the girls (and boy) were in the coop. Just today they were all glancing up at the sky and I looked up to see the white belly of a bird of prey of some kind circling above. It was pretty windy though today, and the birds are getting pretty big. Still, I keep the dogs out with them just in case. We haven't lost a bird to a predator yet and don't plan on it!!!
