The movie "Fresh"

just finished watching it, makes you want to go out and grow everything for yourself

I sure would like to see this 'movement' get beyond Michael Pollin, Joel Salatin, et. al. These folks have set an important foundation but when every book, documentary, etc. features them it makes it seem like there are only 1/2 dozen fanatics that are interested in changing the food growing/distribution world.

I feel the same. I would love to see this 'movement' just explode and things really change. I will say I've seen a small increase in local food options... and that is a good start.

But, I've come to a conclusion that differs from Salatin. I don't believe the "average" person really wants to know where their food came from... or really wants to connect and take responsibility for feeding themselves healthy, local food. The "average" person is too busy with their lives... too busy entertaining themselves... to busy with work and kids and athletics and programs to have time to worry about their food. Sad.

I, for one, will be influencing my loved ones.

Cheers!

I watched this last night - YouTube on my Samsung TV is great! Thanks for putting together the playlist MakNugget!

I'm trying to work toward growing the majority of my food - but it's very difficult, especially when you already work full time.

But, I do have almost 10 acres which is a big start! Last year I raised two pigs and in 6 months had 478.5 lbs. of pork in my freezer. Plus my chicken flock - a modest 10 birds last year but I'm adding 15 more (so far

) this year. And I've grown a small garden the past couple of years. I'm hoping to expand that to an acre including an 80x20 hoop house. BTW none of this is inexpensive, either! I figure once the facilities are in place the cost will diminish as it then becomes just a matter of maintenance.

Okay. You were right. This movie *was* better than Food, Inc.!! It makes me even more committed to raising more of my own food. Now if I can just figure out how to talk my husband into getting a milk cow and a couple of pigs....

Thanks for the playlist, Mak! We played it via the YouTube app on our new bluray player, so we could watch it on our tv rather than huddle around my laptop!
